OAPs must be finding it difficult to manage funds right now. If they are on the internet, which may be unlikely, then they will end up paying more for food and delivery. If they're not then corner shops are expensive. Having to stay in they will use more heating, phone calls, etc .

Come on Doris cough up.

Perhaps they should be reduced to 80% of their current level. That is what is happening to everyone else.

UK state pension worst in the developed world: https://www.ftadviser.com/pensions/2018/02/13/uk-state-pension-worst-in-the-developed-world/

What a fine way to repay the people who made this country.
Report Coachbuster March 24, 2020 9:36 PM GMT
pension age will probably have to increase after this  anyway - probably  to 70   ...tax hikes  and inflation need to be pegged back
Report Charlie March 24, 2020 9:39 PM GMT
Tax the rich and the young they only squander money. Pension age will increase until there are no pensioners. How come MPs get a good annual pay rise?

That is because (in broad terms) employers with occupational pensions were allowed to pay lower contributions and their employees got a lower state pension.  Those employees not in schemes got pension top ups in some cases almost doubling their pension.

Report Charlie March 24, 2020 9:57 PM GMT
Not sure what point your making. Just look at where the UK is in terms of state pension. Private pensions are a different matter.

When he arrives, inquire as to his pension arrangements.

^^^^the point is that using the basic figure in that article is misleading as most get more than that.  Also other countries like France know that their entirely state funded system is unsustainable - they have taken a lot of money from employers and employees and now can't pay the bill.

Maybe true may not be:

Don't over-estimate the number who have private pensions.

What %age of people on state pension also have private pensions?
I'd imagine it fairly high in those who have retired in the past 15 years or so.
I don't think raising the pensions is such a good idea. Possibly looking to help in other ways.
I'd take it but as I still manage to save each year it wouldn't be merited.
Report UBLE/REGY March 24, 2020 11:28 PM GMT
Since it is the pensioners who are going to take the bulk of the casualties from Corona

It is right to divided the money saved among the rest of us pensioners

Seems a good idea to meLaugh
