Said in another thread just yesterday how utterly weak and disappointing the UK's government is for falling over onto its botty at the first sight of a slight breeze from the front, installing all these measures.

That, however, doesn't mean the their original course wouldn't have cost more lives. Of course it would've. There is no question about it at all.

However, I also understand that some people demand their governments to protect them from death.

Ioannidis is in so far correct that we know very little about the real lethality of it all. However, if governments are kind of interested into saving lives from a virus that has some evidence for a higher than average lethality, they can't wait the entire thing out, calculate themselves some fancy statistics and then act when it's all over, can they?

Personally, as I said I think we should just let the virus do its thing. If it ends up killing the drags on society in massive numbers, the old and weak, then all the better.
