I think the usa are testing many more people than other countries, i could be wrong.

Maybe the healthcare in the usa aint so bad, if you can afford it.

Historians now believe that the fatal severity of the Spanish flu’s “second wave” was caused by a mutated virus spread by wartime troop movements.

2020 we have international flight movements

I think that is the bigger concern, if this virus mutates who knows what is next......

Got parents aged 68 & 63, mother is being treated for a chest infection but she fears the worst. It isnt the most enjoyable times since Cheltenham I can tell you.

& I had winnings to spend at Aintree Cry

The lack of free healthcare in USA may prove to lead to a massive disaster. A virus test cost ball park $1300. Most folks couldn't afford that so just carried on if they had a sore throat etc allowing the virus to spread nationwide.

Today the USA reported (so far) 9398 new cases, taking them to 42964 total but are only reporting 111 deaths?

That`s not true, is it? You want to have another try at it?

This is fourteen hours (at least) old. Why don't you just stick to the official figures for all countries on the official site ?

OK, bit of confusion going on.
I read, and intended to reply to, this;

politicspunter 23 Mar 20 22:36
Btw, the USA "official" death figures look ludicrously low compared to the number of new daily cases.

Then, instead of quoting that post, I accidentally quoted your subsequent post, which by now included the word `new`, but I wasn`t looking too closely, thought I was replying to the first one. On the `Trump` thread, I made a similar mistake about a year ago, and another one a couple of months ago and, on both occasions accepted my mistake and apologised. One of the major differences between good, right thinking people and satan`s little helpers is the ability to recognise fault within ourselves, to apologise, and to learn from it.Therefore, allow me to apologise for this mis-reading, sorry for any confusion caused..

Nevertheless, your first post is casting unnecessary aspersions, as the US mortality rate is in the 1.x% range, in line with the lower end rates of other nations, so certainly nothing `ludicrous` about it.

the damage to the western economy far out weighs all this other 'cases' and deaths

how many will it have killed at the end

and nothing related directly to the virus
By:
politicspunter
When: 24 Mar 20 00:28
No apology required, a simple mistake was made. Regarding the mortality rate, it may look very low (ie currently 43449 cases and only 545 total deaths at time of writing) because it has arrived later in the USA and most folks confirmed to be tested positive are in the earlier stages. I may be wrong, I just feel that sadly that deaths figure may start shooting up.
