Yes. Trees etc.
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 8:01 AM GMT
i worked yesterday as well ,i am a part time gardener and have minimal contact with customers ,but am confused with weather i should be working or not .
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 8:03 AM GMT
had a lot of cancellations obv due to the virus ,can imagine the cab buissnes must be dire feed the goat ,how many fares yesterday?
Report Injera March 22, 2020 8:07 AM GMT
I should think small domestic cleaning companies must have suffered badly. People won’t have them in their houses.
Report feed the goat...... March 22, 2020 8:25 AM GMT
I worked from 7am till 5pm yesterday 10 fares on a normal Saturday 20 - 25 in those hours .
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 8:36 AM GMT
more than 50% down , Sad, i will have to message my customers and give them the choice if they want gardening and hope i dont lose too many ,not looking great ,plus may hyave to try for this univ credit but only £90 odd a week .
Report Crisp77 March 22, 2020 9:02 AM GMT
I would say work if no one around. The problem you might have is the people who want to do their own garden now to get out the house.
Report black shuck March 22, 2020 9:14 AM GMT
Worked Friday

in Day 7 of lockdown.

Worked everyday so far coding.

Hoping to take on some more homeworkers to use this year to 18 months in isolation to develop stuff for the future.

I'm working but contract up in a few weeks, just in time to enjoy another great summer of sport.  Aintree, Masters, Snooker, Giro, Euro 2020, Ascot, The Opens, Tour de France, Olympics, Ryder Cup.  Going to be fantastic
Report saddo March 22, 2020 11:07 AM GMT
Lidl are offering loads of 4 month contracts round here, shelf filling at nearly 10 quid an hour. Other stores must be doing similar, could be useful for those who are wondering what to do for the foreseeable.
Report Dr Crippen March 22, 2020 11:22 AM GMT
If I were self-employed I'd be working if I could.

These people who call for clampdowns and isolation are nearly all paid to stay at home- so they would wouldn't they?
Report Coachbuster March 22, 2020 4:24 PM GMT
i'd imagine those shelf stacking jobs will be hugely popular
Report moisok March 22, 2020 4:40 PM GMT
still going here -  one you know about and is basically finnish

one of my others  is still ticking over nicely but I am concerned for the future

but I will have to use capital at some stage  which is a bad thing
Report lybertyne March 22, 2020 4:51 PM GMT
Yeh, orders have gone up, actually.

Bargain chip girls use it ffs
Report Danno March 22, 2020 7:16 PM GMT
Contractor to sports events (mass participation amateur, not professional).  100% of income gone for the foreseeable as events have all been cancelled.
Thousands similarly affected.  All self employed.  A true nightmare; many won't recover from this.
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 8:09 PM GMT
i am getting cancellations left right and center ,looks like i may ahve to apply for that uni credit soon.
Report Injera March 22, 2020 8:40 PM GMT
FOYLES - if you’re working in gardens why are they cancelling you? Their finances perhaps.
Report black shuck March 22, 2020 8:42 PM GMT
Working tomorrow..I may be ok until total lockdown..then I'm boned
Report Mighty Whites 2008 March 22, 2020 9:06 PM GMT
Foyleswar might be worth contacting the local council, local golf clubs etc and offer your services if required. All these sectors are going to be hit hard with staff self isolating so may offer temporary work
Report mad mad moon March 22, 2020 9:25 PM GMT
Im a self employed senior engineer , working  in the construction industry in North London, and not much has changed as yet.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if developments in the next couple of weeks, mean that some sites will be closed soon.
I’m due to start a new contract in Southend in May, but wether that will be postponed I don’t know.
Like most people, just taking every day as it comes
Report BARROWBOY March 22, 2020 9:42 PM GMT
For the struggling taxi drivers might be worth looking at food takeouts, sure they ll be needing extra delivery men.
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 10:22 PM GMT
yeah think prob financial as a fair few  of my customers are now not working and although they may get 80% of their wages prob could could do without the gardening for a while i suspect . luckily have some savings and had a good cheltenham so can ride it out for a few weeks or so  then see what happens . funny enough its most of my  older customers (pensioners ) who have not cancelled . i have contacted most of my customers and given them the option of continuing or cancelling .
Report BARROWBOY March 22, 2020 10:26 PM GMT
Hi Foyles, can’t really understand why anyone should cancel unless it’s a financial problem, take it there’s no need to go anywhere near your customers.
Report moisok March 22, 2020 10:29 PM GMT
it is not going to be this month or next  - it is beyond that when people have eaten up their reserves
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 10:44 PM GMT
think i will have a few this week ,should have been doing a community hall gardens  tommorow morning   on an estate  but they have closed down for at least 2 weeks so thats off .and a younger couple with kids they have cancelled, likely to be financial reasons for that one .
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 10:46 PM GMT
only real contact is getting paid in cash by some and most make you a cup of tea normally .
Report FOYLESWAR March 22, 2020 10:53 PM GMT
my missus is a care worker also self employed and she has been working with another carer who has tonight told her that her mother who she visited last week now has a sore throat ,coughing and a high temp , the other carer has now said she is self isolating for at least 2 weeks and my missus will have to do the same   as obviously she has to visit vulnerable elderly patients .
Report BARROWBOY March 22, 2020 11:00 PM GMT
Sorry to hear that fingers crossed everyone will be ok
Report TimmyRiggins March 22, 2020 11:01 PM GMT
I work from home anyway, so lucky in that respect. Having to charge my clients I work for 50% less until we get back to normal as they're earning much less, too.

At present I would imagine that will be 2021, so better hope they don't run out of baked beans, lol.
Report moisok March 22, 2020 11:02 PM GMT
I laugh in the face of any of these people from the banks who say they are going to help us.   what - help us into more debt

as for the boris financial  advisors  - here is a message

for you -  who is going to pay big business's bills and who is going to pay the workforce

clearly none of them have run a business -  banks yes but any other sort of business which needs a continual throughput of cash/cards/purchases

and they certainly haven't had people to pay weekly or monthly

what on earth are those pubs going to do

Is CJRS available where the employee has not been completely furloughed, but is only partially active or has a reduced workload?

If it's not you'll get a batch of workers sat at home getting free money and another batch of workers having to stay at work and do the donkey work which will breed resentment.

Keep everyone, spread the workload and the govt should make the difference up to 80% for all workers.

When the dust settles and they spot these gaping big holes hopefully the self employed and short time workers will be catered for...but I'm not holding my breath.

Being someone who might get a letter tomoz but being asymptomatic with an underlying condition and working, 94 quid a week for 12 weeks will see people ignoring that letter and forced to work, and they say they don't want people to suffer for being asked to self isolateCrazy
Report Coachbuster March 23, 2020 6:09 PM GMT
80% far too much duffy

no one will gain  otherwise ...it will be tax rises ,inflation  and work til you're 70  Shocked

should be 50 % max and then 'take it on the chin' for the common good
Report Coachbuster March 23, 2020 6:10 PM GMT
that 80 % is a gimmick anyway  - only certain people will end up getting that
Report Coachbuster March 23, 2020 6:11 PM GMT
Fattiewhitey - do you  have savings to fall back on ?
Report hulk23 March 23, 2020 6:16 PM GMT
taxi driver mate was asking me if he can claim 80% of what he actually earns or 80% of what he declares.  think the difference is only about 70 grand.
Report FOYLESWAR March 23, 2020 9:26 PM GMT
so can we still work ?
