Who had a clue JS, everyone knew it was a lot worse than was being let on.
Report themightymac March 20, 2020 4:27 PM GMT
Nonsense has been spouted on here saying 20,000 deaths would be acceptable. Well tell that to the people who have had (and will have) family die from this Pandemic.

Self Isolation is the only way to keep safe and reduce the spreading. Anybody with common sense would realise this.

So to all forumites (especially the older ones) social distance yourself and be careful before it`s too late.
Report Eric.Cartman March 20, 2020 4:42 PM GMT
20,000..stick another 0 on the end and you will still be short...just because you dont like the maths fella, it doesnt mean you can do fack all about it. Theres no hiding from this....people need to grow a pair and start facing the stark facts...chances are your gonna get it...some will die but most will come through the other side.
Report Coachbuster March 20, 2020 4:56 PM GMT
mightymac ,the  overwhelming danger is in   families  getting to close to their grandparents  ...kids maybe sneezing , holding hands not washing hands ...basic hygiene  ....

all measures are good measures  but chances of getting the virus outside on a bench in a pub garden  must be a 1000/1

this must be running rife within families  and isolated pockets  ...probably why it hasn't affected the poorer areas much (yet)
Report Coachbuster March 20, 2020 5:01 PM GMT
i reckon around 60,000 infections (Not cases)    ,next week would maybe hit around  140,000   ...then if nothing was done  310,000 etc the next week   on that sort of scale ...

then it would passed around in those smaller social groups and then fan out of the area in small numbers to in turn to  start again within those social groups .
Report JJmbe March 20, 2020 5:02 PM GMT
When the tube was being allowed to operate to full capacity last week, but there were no cases on London you knew it was all b ullshit.

We can self isolate as long as we choose, but one visit to the supermarket and we might not have bothered.

What's worse is we're going to the supermarkets far more often, in order to try and catch them with the stuff we want on the shelves.
Report CLYDEBANK29 March 20, 2020 5:04 PM GMT
It's not going to be anywhere near 200,000.

I doubt the first wave will reach 20k myself.

My local supermarket was so packed yesterday, I turned round and went home.

I'll shop at the local Spar.
Report Coachbuster March 20, 2020 5:08 PM GMT
JJmbe  ...  i honestly don't think this virus spreads much through crowds / gatherings much at all unless someone was sneezing or coughing  all over the shop   ...i think it's intimate contact  ....kissing / sexual  or  handshaking  / sneezing by kids in shared rooms where kids have the virus

if it was easy to pass on we'd easily all have it by now
Report Eric.Cartman March 20, 2020 5:08 PM GMT

Guy in his 20s from London on the news last night. When asked why he wasn`t taking government advice to change social habits, he said he didn`t care if he caught it. When told by reporter that if he caught it he could pass it on to others including vulnerable people, he replied with a laugh, "Well they should stay indoors".

We will never know the full numbers, not enough testing kits available, people self isolating and recovering, also had people tell me the same hear it everyday in the cab, loads of old people down here on south coast.

Sadly, people are not taking this Pandemic seriously. Just stats and news on the telly.

When you hear someone in the family has tested positive for covid-19, I can assure you all that it really strikes home then.

2 of the family have been diagnosed with it so please don`t be too complacent about it. It`s real and is out there.

Stay safe all.

No evidence of UK health workers being routinely tested yet.  Strange that the media doesn't ask "is the reason you are not Test,Test,Testing because you effectively ran out of tests weeks ago and only had enough left for seriously ill patients?"

time nhs got brutal told the truth,

if young nhs workers not in high risk area with no or mild symptons treating patients almost cerrainly infected are going to have to carry on working, and maybe self isolate in the 1000,s of empty hotels to avoid spreading it amongst theit family, brutal but as in Italy nhs cant afford to lose 1000,s of nhs workers if they test positive
Report GoBallistic March 21, 2020 12:25 PM GMT
More than a million people have signed a petition calling for NHS staff to be prioritised for coronavirus testing so they can continue to work.

Junior doctor Rebecca McCauley, who started the petition to health secretary Matt Hancock, said all NHS workers, including cleaners who are "the unsung heroes", are facing a dilemma at work.

She said it is common to get a cough in March, but as they would not know if it is COVID-19 without a test they have to either stay off work for seven days or go to work and potentially spread coronavirus to sick patients.

The petition called on health secretary Matt Hancock to test frontline NHS staff for COVID-19 as a priority

Dr McCauley said: "Currently, tests are only being done on patients who require hospital admission.

"This virus will cause minor symptoms for most people, and relatively young and healthy staff are most likely to fall into that category.

"The issue is the patients we treat are not healthy, they are frail and vulnerable.

"Ask yourself this - if your loved one needs hospital care for a condition not related to COVID-19, would you want them to be treated by staff who are likely infected with it?

most hospitals are segregating the corona patients the person your treating has it your not infecting them,in and out ,moving around you have ppe on practicing social distancing with patients as far as possible, all very difficult, but noit as difficult as 1000p,s of nhs workers at home with little or no symptons but tested positive, and as I keep screaming even a negative test is only a snapshot in time, if its as contagious as they say even with ppe working 12/15 hour shifts with the most infected patients highly unlikely you,ll avoid having it  at some point,
Report Akak March 21, 2020 12:35 PM GMT
Working NHS staff deserve to be paid double.  They are putting their life at risk, while half the country will be sitting at home being paid over £500 per week. Could you blame anyone for simply not turning up to work. Massive respect to all of them.

Report 1st time poster March 21, 2020 1:01 PM GMT
ive no idea, but nhs ,mp,s media are putting it out there it will increase nhs numbers free some self isolating for whatever reason but testing negative, but surely even the biggest idiot in the world can see its more likely to stand more nhs workers down who test positive,
the fooooking evidence is there 7,000 Italian health workers testing poisitive

irony is there,ll be some nhs workers out there who are feeling fine, mild symptons if theie stood down for a positive test be screaming on media, social media I,m fine let me back to work
I,m summising after failing a test only another negative test frees you for work, when do they do that after 1,2,3,4 weeks keep testing wasting millions of test kits confirming 1st test, even after peak this going on for a year minimum amongst nhs workers, probably even worse after peak as nhs workers will be moving back in to area,s of not infected patients through out the system
no easy answer,s
