The supermarkets will only co-operate to a certain extent because they love it.
Drove past two supermarkets again today, and both car parks were full with cars queuing up to get on.
You're okay using shops like the Spar and the Co-op.
Few people shop at the Co-op because their stuff is too expensive. Went in yesterday and there were very few people there.
If they can't sell stuff in this climate they're heading for trouble.

local tesco ,morrisons asda, all zero toilet roll. Seen my small local across the road just receiving a delivery, and got 12 pack of toilet roll (Nicky) £3.19p. I could have taken two packs, but imagine meeting an elderly neighbour on the way out.

The original suggestion in the opening post is a very practical measure. Added benefit of being visual for all other shoppers, encouraging good “herd behaviour”.

So everybody takes four packs of toilet rolls and four packs of everything else that's in short supply.
Restrict them to two items for a start.
Aldi restricts people to four per product. So everybody takes four packs of toilet rolls and four packs of everything else that's in short supply.Restrict them to two items for a start.
Agree entirely with the original poster making it basket only would probably be the best way to control the problem but we know it won't be implemented. More choice on the shelves, checkouts moving through quicker and aisles less blocked.
Families shouldn't be an issue. You can get enough food to feed a family for a few days in a basket. If you can't just offload the one basket and then queue again. Just involves a little patience. Something that everyone who normally manages with a basket is having to exhibit at the moment.

I saw a good idea on this on Twitter. If buying a single item that would be normal price but if buying 2 the price on the second item would be triple. But perhaps people would just go round again.

I,m the forum thicko but besides kids at home for lunch how much actually changes, getting 2,3 ,4 weeks supply you wont be going back and wont be tottering down on a daily basis for top ups, and workers wont be in for meal deals etc, eventually at some point it all unwinds, watching the news if anything is putting me of food

People are anticipating a supply problem further down the line. Less supply and tricky logistics if workers are sick or in lock-down. With the global produce we could sit back and not panic buy, but if every other country does we still end up with empty shelves but we have nothing in the cupboards.

Was a bit annoyed when I heard that the supermarkets were applying the "limit items in orders" to everyone, so like Care Homes getting their big delivery for 40 pensioners were getting 2 loaves of bread etc, a fraction of what they needed. They need to lift some restrictions for special vetted cases?

a) restricted earlier than they did b) show some loyalty, as per their cards suggest, and have some stock for loyal customer that had been 'nicked' by bandits

They'll have the clubcard data. If people used the loyalty cards, they'll know who was panic buying to a stupid extent.
They normally in my experience send out vouchers depending on what you've bought. I'm guessing a lot of feckers are going to get a lot of vouchers for toilet roll and pasta :)
The supermarkets should send people who suddenly bought 150 rolls of Andrex vouchers with "You are a kn0b. Value: £0" on them
