Its a religious time that lasts for forty days and forty nights.
in the old days when i was a young lad, everything stopped during lent.
no pubs where open,no dance halls were open, the radio was switched off(that time it was called a wireless).
everyone dressed in dark clothes, most shops were closed, statues were covered in a purple material, everyone kept their head down when they walked,
everyone got depressed, girls were not allowed wear bright coloured dresses ,life was very dull, children were not allowed to play, the whole country would come to a halt.
And then Easter Sunday would arrive ,the sun would shine ,the music would start again, and everyone would be back to normal ,people would smile and
laugh ,it was a different world. And that is only 60 years ago.
its sort of like the present day,so roll on easter Sunday.
