"How come you guys sing like Americans but speak like Englishmen?"

I haven't actually hear this man speak, other than a brief shout of "OY", but I'm guessing his speaking voice is perhaps different to his, shall we say, 'performing' voice.

Rarely has a man bestrode the stage with such command.

Ian Curtis' speaking voice was more George Formby than Leonard Cohen

Adele.  Sings nicely but sounds awfully common when she talks.

In 2004 I saw Avril Lavigne.  She spoke inbetween songs but her voice is so high-pitched it was difficult to understand her.

I would say that everyone is guilty of this (dependant on what they are singing)....

All of the 'Bee Gees'....RIP Andy, Maurice and Robin....

Imagine them speaking falceto, in the style of 'Staying Alive"

You try singing 'Staying Alive', in your own voice and accent, at a 'Karaoke Bar'!

One outstanding example, that I guess most will not have seen, is Donald Braswell, a Texan on 'X-Factor USA',
who sang 'Music Of The Night', precisely as it is in the musical.....

Imagine how that would be, in a Texas Drawl y'all......
