A diminished BBC would weaken the country as a whole, the corporation's chairman will warn in a speech later.
Sir David Clementi will say putting the broadcaster's services behind a paywall would lessen its ability to "bring the country together".Crazy

Not everybody would be able to access the "live important moments we enjoy as a nation", like Royal weddings and Olympic successes, he will tell staff.Laugh
His comments come amid a debate about the future of the licence fee.

Is this the royal wedding where the 2 royals have now left the royal family?!

Olympics? Every 4 years? Give me strength. Amazed he didn’t also mention crown green bowls or cross country running...

Good discussion on last nights moral maze on R4,one of the guest seemed to think that it was ok to imprison people because the offence was non payment of fine irrespective that the fine was for watching tv.

****s are trying to say I haven't paid when I have...get a threatening letter every month...see them in court and I want serious damages if they persist

****s are trying to say I haven't paid , although in my case I haven't cos I haven't watched TV in my residence for the last decade .
This fact still hasn't stopped them sending 173 threatening letters in the last 5 years warning me of impending visits , enforcement officers in my area , investigations opened , investigations continuing , penalties for non-payment etc.
Basically non-stop harassment from a government controlled organisation none of which can be justified in any form . Keeping all correspondence with view to a potential lawsuit Angry

I must admit I will misss the pomp and ceremony of the royal events

such a comfort to know the folk eating out of bins a couple of miles away get a break from the drudgery of freezing homelessness and starvation

I am so glad we were never bombed by Mr Hilter's lot. I am also glad that the russians never lost tens of millions of people.   We are so lucky.  We could have had peace.  Mr Hilter was basically a peaceful man who only wanted to add an extension to his property but as usual the bureaucrats and planners got in the way.  Very similar to what Ms Merkel and her new reich want in their expansion eastwards.
