Surely the wider point is that our liberal system is reluctant to deport anyone.
Thornberry infamously supported the return of IS fighters... |
|

I think The UK must abide by International Law eg an individual rendered stateless and with a British Passport and born her must be allowed to return to The UK regardless of crime. However, an individual in a similar predicament but not born here whose application to return to The UK must be denied or at least challenged in the courts.
I agree anyone who was a repeat offender of the same crime deported yesterday have only themselves to blame - with family or not. They could reapply to return after a period eg 10 years after they have shown repentance. |

Lammy is raging that this flight went ahead
"The #Jamaica50 flight left this morning. It is an outrage that the government deports people who arrived in the UK as children to countries they do not know. We must not give up this fight." |
|
By:
Sajid Javid said: "This flight is very similar to the one I sent to Jamaica when I was Home Secretary in February. It's all about protecting the public. That is our number one priority.
"Every single person on this flight is a foreign national offender. They have all committed serious offences, things like manslaughter, rape, dealing in Class A drugs. "They are not British nationals and not a single one is a member of the Windrush generation." |
|
By:
I think only 17 were deported to Jamaica as a few were reprieved (for now). But, none were British Passport holder; here as a child, but repeatedly doing illegal dodgy activities does not immune them from deportation under a legislation introduced by Mr Lammy's Party in 2007.

Someone on Twitter just said that Lammy actually voted for the law they are being kicked out under

sums up why labour are totally un electable.
Here the govt are trying to deport murders, rapists, drug dealers and so on and these clowns want them to stay!!! These are not petty criminals, done for stealing a loaf of bread here, they have each been given over 12 months sentance. If we can get rid of them from these shores then the UK will be a slightly safer place to be. Any one convicted of a serious crime (12 month sentence suggest it is) and is from a foreign country should be deported. No bleedin hearts this or lived here for x years. They did the crime and those are the rules, ps dont come back. |
|
By:
ffs lammy aint arguing about the law ,he,s questioning the status of some of the people on the flight and if some of them have been groomerd, county lines etc etc
read for yourself and not what the right wing media tell you the home office have now agreed to take another look at, at least 8 of those on board,so maybe the home office might think some shouldn't be on the plane who no,s they may all end up getting deported as as their already in detention no ones in danger the fact patel wanted to fast track the planes departure ,tells me some shouldn't be on there, but who no,s at the end of the day doris.patel can ignore the findings of windrush inquiry set up by mrs may and consider no one ,no matter how old has a right to uk nationality,in patels case that's a given |
|
By:
everyone has a sob story to their crimes. Prison is full of people who it wasnt really their fault, mixed with wrong crowd and so on.
they did the crimes (serious ones too, we are not talking speeding tickets here or stealing a loaf). Maybe other foreign criminals will think twice before they do these crimes knowing it will lead to deportation. |
|
By:
Perhaps we should deport all the British criminals too. We have enough territories around the world, Falklands, Gibralter, Canvey Island.

50 back to jamaica .......... 50 lost votes for labour

I have to say if you were here as a child in the 50’s - 70’s didn’t they ever go on holiday abroad?
Do Romainians, Albanians, Australians, French, Italians and Americans get sent home too? How does it work? |

Brits have been deported back to the UK from Australia under the same law.
|
|
By:
Was reading that one of those deported today was a drug dealer who bludgeoned a young woman to death with a hammer.
I genuinely couldn't give a f*ck at what age he came here we are well shot of him. Emily Thornberry unhappy despite them being deported under legislation introduced by Labour. |
|
By:
We do not deport any sex criminals, including our own.
Our law forbids it at the moment? |
|
By:
I think the hammer killer was not on the plane and is still serving life.
But he was an example of a violent criminal that had been told he would be deported to Jamaica but was allowed to stay, and then did the murder. |
|
By:
That law was passed by Cameron, a tory.

What law EBUL?

By:
Lloyd Byfield, 48, admitted stabbing 26-year-old Leighann Duffy 14 times after breaking into her home in Walthamstow, east London, in September 2014.
At the Old Bailey, Byfield was told he would serve a minimum of 26-and-a-half years but may never be released. The judge also told the court the authorities failed to deport Byfield after he committed earlier crimes. During the hearing, Judge Nicholas Cooke said the murder could have been prevented if the Jamaican national had been sent to his homeland after he attacked another woman with a chisel and was jailed for 30 months for burglary in 2005. He told Byfield: "You were to be deported but, for reasons that have never been explained to me, that was never actioned and you remained here able to kill an innocent woman." The Home Office said Byfield was one of about 1,000 prisoners released without being considered for deportation over several years which the then Home Secretary Charles Clarke apologised for. Mr Clarke was later sacked as home secretary. Byfield was released in 2005 and absconded after a deportation order was pursued in 2007. |

Must have been misreported Tober. Definatly said he was on the plane in the report I read.

By:
I don't know the law exactly akabula….
but I remember it at the time, it was done for women. We don't allow anybody who has committed a sex offence to come into this country, for the same reason. Mike Tyson was not allowed to come, although he had served his sentence, that disappointed me. |
|
By:
As I understand it EBUL the legislation was introduced in 2007 so either Blair or Brown.

By:
Sorry I see what you are referring to now.

Maybe lammy or Abbott would volunteer to open their house to a few of these victims to help in their rehabilitation.

By:
For Ms Abbott to say the deportation caused "wide spread concern" was clearly untrue, and to use "double jeopardy" as a reason not to deport clearly was an emotive misjudgement as deportees were non-British repeated offenders of odious crimes. I believe these repeat offenders must always be repatriated to their country of origin regardless including with/without a family.
And, none of the deported was related to "Windrush" either. |

The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE 11 Feb 20 22:48
Brits have been deported back to the UK from Australia under the same law. Many years ago my brother spent eight weeks in a regular jail in Brisbane awaiting his deportation for overstaying. He never moaned about it and was quite grateful not to be charged for the flight home. |
|
By:
Fully support the idea of deportation of serious criminals but I also have a nagging doubt about the ability of our civil servants to get it right in every case instead of ensuring the first example is a cast iron case of guilty parties.

Next plane should be full of pedo book readers.
Send them to some godforsaken place like Papua New Guinea. They are always after a bit of fresh meat........... for the pot! |

No sex criminals can leave this country...as I posted earlier
We like to keep them here and punish them for life.. I not sure I agree with this.... but it is want women want.....and men are terrified to oppose women in our society at the moment |
