This ceremony is now 92 years old and I hope it never gets to its century.
Nauseating backslapping from a bunch of narcissists but from here on in, any black / female worker in the industry must wonder if they've won their award due to their talent or because they tick the 'right' boxes

The Oscars 2020 has kicked off with a huge statement from Janelle Monae as she sang ‘Oscars is so white’ in her opening performance.
Janelle then went on to tell the star-studded audience: ‘We are celebrating all the women who directed phenomenal films. I’m so proud to stand here as a black, **** artist, to tell the story. Happy Black History month.’

I'm not knowlegeable enough to discern whether the Acadamy actually does harbour inherent prejudice, but from where I sat and watched teh show looked pretty diverse to me. But any backlash over the exclusion of female directors surely defeats itself if they persist in separating the acting awards by gender. Whatever - positive discrimination dilutes the purity of any meritocracy. It should be resisted in every walk of life as much as vigorously as should negative discrimiation. If the latter is present, the former does not redress the balance.

Box office success depends on the actors, so I can't see any problem whatsoever.
Long may those who pay the piper continue to call the tune.
Except for the BBC of course, and their days are numbered.
