^^It is completely different obv.

The OP is completely absurd and Ann Francke of the Chartered Management Institute should either admit she fell into the trap of making a comment before thinking or start looking for another job.

grrr dusty I had a nice pun about her diary but you beat me to it.

can understand womens viewpoint here  ,men shouldn't be working in offices ...it's a  feminine environment  ...men should be doing manly/masculine jobs if they want to discuss sport etc

I agree with Ann Francke to a point. Most football chat is inane and excrutiatingly boring, and often becomes boorish - just has to be avoided rather than banned.

(Of course, any lads who have any brains and sufficient desire to get his leg over 'Clare from work' should have figured this out already and upped his game / conversation topics by now. However I see at first hand this is not the case.....Shocked... poor w@nkers have no chance).

Reminds me of a nerdy guy (Angus) I worked with who was with some of us on a night out - I swaggered over to a a couple of dollies and was getting on quite well until the said Angus joined me and regaled the same dollies about our work, and the ins and outs of web service deployment we were undertaking at a bank - left without finishing their drinksCryCry. Not quite as boring as football - but not far awaySad

But football chat has become more interesting, Wallflower, with the VAR debate.

Arguments now about marginal offsides, accidental handball, fouls, etc etc has now enlivened my Saturday evening Match of the Day!  Though it has spoilt the game overall.  There needs to be new rules brought in.

When I was young no young man chatting me up mentioned football, I wished he had.

If we're courting we keep sport locked away Wink

Betting? would never mention that to a lady either

In fact I would wager the first 3 months of a new relationship for a man sport/gambling goes on the back burner, its only when they've tied her up and dumped her in the kitchen we resume those games

Report annie. January 28, 2020 2:17 PM GMT
That is where we are different, Sontaram.  I would never let my love of gambling be on the 'back burner' where new, or existing, men(or women) are concerned Silly

Report peckerdunne January 28, 2020 5:33 PM GMT
Bingo is quite expensive nowadays, some women play many books several nights a week..

They buy bundles of scratch cards, 49s , lottery, on line games, and they enter bookies too, often in the am period...

Buy next week you will now see them gambling at every turn........Laugh

The sad thing is, Coachbuster, is that I have rarely had a boyfriend/girlfriend who loves gambling as much as me Cry In fact the opposite, most of them have disapproved of my love of horseracing, then, and now poker, football etc etc Sad

I don't gamble huge amounts and I think 'gambling' is the wrong word. There should be another word for those of us who study the games and not just use chance such as roulette etc.

I remember galloping carrot and Cathy22 as well, Coachbuster.  Like you I have had my doubts about some of the 'women' on here, they just don't sound like women.

I think 'speculating' is a much better word for playing poker and football betting as there is a modicum of intelligence required.  Unlike roulette etc.  My dad was a gambler as well, he started me off putting on bets for me on the Grand National - starting a long love of horseracing that only ended some years ago.  Although I often miss it and think about going back to it, but I haven't got the time to study form, bet on horseracing and play poker as well Sad

it's interesting that you study form Annie and so gives you a head start  over the rest of us ,and i hope it's paid off    ...very few gamblers i know study much of anything ,neither do I these days  Grin

I sometimes get a good feeling in my bones about a game and will punt ,but more often i bet on something if i feel the odds are out of place  ...i've just got to know the prices over the years .

I still never seen a woman in a bookies though back in the day except for  Derby day
