Heres what I've done - and its been cost efficient: lets share ideas.....
I joined Octopus energy - just googled them- using link for £50 credit share.octopus.energy/dusky-sky-220 Dead easy - they did all the work - I did not have to contact my previous power company/ I have reduced bills and 100% renewable energy. I go compared them - for me they were the cheapest. Whats not to like?
Solar panels - installed 7 years ago- have now paid for themselves. Saved 20,000 lbs of CO2- thats equivalent of 3 trees so far and counting.
Have just installed a solarpower box - it trickle feeds any surplus solar energy into hot water cylinders rather than exporting to the grid Early days but looks like it will pay for itself in a year. Cost £210. Estimate will reduce my solar export to the grid by 20-30% Installed LED lighting throughout 7 years ago. Paid for itself and stopped overloading of circuit - the fuse box would trip intermittently. How much energy do you use? I will pay for around 2000 units electricity + 12000 gas this year - will get 4000 in from solar. About annual cost zero but still using a net 10,000 from the grid - but at least this is clean energy.
Electric bike trial this year; no ev for me yet - but may rethink when widespread wireless induction charging becomes the norm .Just park up and vehicle charges from a sunken plate in the road/ drive/ car park. Bring it on!
Good for you Johnny. I've recently been speaking with some Aussie mates who have had the very biggest of wake up calls. Their attitude is now somewhat different to that of a few years back. Enjoy yourself.

I did a solar panel course about10 years ago and was arguing with the lecturer he was saying in a fews time it will be like getting sky the streets will be full of vans installing panels, I said no chance even then all the subsidised tariffs were been gobbled by industrial size panel fields by farmers, and new builds aside you can count on one hand the number of solar panels on old build houses, cant remember seeing a van in the streets installing them and couldn't name you a supplier, all these schemes insulating houses, electric cars etc etc will have to be either paid for by government or heavily subsidised by government or it aint going to happen what their going to do jail people who cant afford to make the changes needed and why would those who can afford to do it, do it because it,ll make no difference if the majority don't,thats before we get into heavy polluters like china, india etc carrying on regardless

there isnt even any incentive for people to get into the installing game its mostly minimum wage ,with only the bloke like a corgi registered plumber who actually wires it up making a decent living

I stroll parks at night and break off leaves from trees so they don't release CO2. Obviously I am also risking inhaling the gas myself but at least little detraveller and his kids will live on a safe planet a few decades down the road.

with all his and his productions team travelling I,d probably have to live to be a 1000 years old to match david attenbroough,s carbon footprint,so wont be taking any lecture,s of him and his kind

wow - surely somebody out there wants to do the right thing AND save money....surely???
if you own a roof but not the cash -consider letting a company install and maintain a solar panel array at nil cost to you - you get the benefit of using free electricity when sun shines, and once up and running a solar box tied into your hot water cylinder (s) will help further;
switching to a green energy supplier will save you money at minimum effort and help the planet- the one i'm with gets 5 stars recommendation from Which
come on guys - help save the planet

next week all the super rich will be flying into Davos on their private jets and will come up with idea's how us plebs can save the planet, they will justify it by claiming they have planted a few tree's

It's peeing down with rain in Australia. If the rain had come a bit earlier, the global warming brigade would have had to find something else to point to.
It's all a big con anyway. It's peeing down with rain in Australia. If the rain had come a bit earlier, the global warming brigade would have had to find something else to point to.
ive not flown for about 12 years I don't eat meat and only let the wife have the heating on if its below minus 5.
that's my bit and more importantly I don't go virtue bleating belching out absolute shoite on an hourly basis ,whilst travelling across the atlantic on a private jet,

I'm not an activist - and I am by nature a sceptic - but i mst admit that after watching channel 4's documentary 'Apocolypse Cow' it really made me think.
you could do worse than spend half an hour watching this: but it ends on a very promising note - protein from air , remewable energy, water and bacteria.- pancakes anyone?
The CO2 footprint flying UK to New York return is the same carbon footprint as eating 4kg of beef. New York pancakes anyone?

lmao, most people have been persuaded to buy combi boilers in recent years to save energy, no water tanks.

Let me run this story past you all(how true it is i am not sure) 1=The governments of the world have employed 3000 scientists to tell us all about how bad global warming is progressing. 2=In Spain some of the main cities have already banned petrol and diesel cars from entering city centers at week ends to lower CO2 emissions ,and plan to ban all petrol and diesel cars for ever over the next ten years. 3=when they done the CO2 Tests in the city center they got a low CO2 reading so they abandoned the first test for a few weeks. on the second test they delayed all the traffic lights for an extra minute so that queues built up all over the cities and they got their required high CO2 readings to justify their ban on cars entering the cities. now they tell everyone that they should buy a new electric car because the petrol ones are smothering the people with CO2. ITS MONEY MONEY MONEY,FOR ALL GOVERNMENTS IN A FORM OF CARBON TAX, THATS THE AGENDA.

John Humphrys writes in the Mail that he's giving up air travel because he wants to save the world from climate change, and we should too.
What a clown he's turned out to be without a script to read from.
Oh, but he'll still be flying to Greece to visit his family.
So he's not giving up air travel at all. Then what's the point of his article?
He wants you and I to give up air travel, while him and his kind carry on flying, that's what his article is about.

If the UK went zero carbon tomorrow, it wouldn't make a scrap of difference to climate change even if this phase of global warming we're going through were man made.
It's all a great big hoax.
Yet it does explain how easily people were led into believing witchcraft, and how the masses gave their lives so readily fighting wars for issues that were none of their business.
The term ''cannon fodder'' is very appropriate here.

It may well subsidise your own energy but, other than that, it's a negative!
The lunatics behind these utopian fuel saving schemes should get real, unbury their heads from the sand, and do as some do with betting strategies, which is to prove that it won't work, rather than it will!
The power generating companies struggle as is now, and too often have to buy power from France!
How the hell do they think that production can be increased, to cope with, let's say, even 10% of electric cars on the road!
Even if it was possible, they would have to burn more fossil fuel, until we go nuclear, and even if this was sanctioned for the green light tomorrow, it would be very many years to get in place!
Has anyone even given any thought at all, as to the biggest consumers of fossil fuel, which is HGV's?
Also, having lost the obscene revenue, generated by tax on petrol and diesel, what will be the way & excuse to recoup this?

Of course an e bike saves energy compared to a petrol car- I've got an old diesel which when new was , we were told, the greenest , all my current energy supplied is now from renewables.
Doh!

i do what i've done one day 1 year dot ...recycle ,not eat meat and make things last as long as poss and i never preach
can't be doing with listening to these loony tun environmentalists that have come out of the woodwork ...raving fookin eccentric mad the lot of them .

How many climate change activists have given up their smartphones that use electricity to charge up every day. I never had one I do drive an automatic diesel car though.

Just seen that Tesla are making rechargeable batteries which will last lifetime of their car - and some.
The real problem is how do we get the co2 from the air back underground? Even if we all went carbon neutral dragging in the co2 in atmosphhere tomake food and fuel ( yes its on its way) this is just carbon neutral- it gets released back into the atmosphere.
We are all going to have to pay to bury the stuff- a cost with no visible return .....

people wanna keep ugrading their items even when they do last ...
constantly keep getting calls to upgrade smartphone for a newer smartphone .... it does what i want to do ... yes, but you can ugrade for no extra £££ ...
i was told 'if you don't upgrade every year youre a freak and a damn loser '
that last line not really true

immense pressure to always have the latest model etc , and gear not designed to last
pretty sure most would agree how uncanny it is stuff seems to go as soon as guarantee runs out

Make maximum use of daylight and don't heat your house for more than necessary. I am usually up at 7.00 in winter and 6.30 in summer and asleep by 9.30 which saves a lot of electricity and heating compared to the average household.

it is going to get wet - we will drown or freeze etc depending on what year and what prediction
they seem to get it wrong every time
latest one sees most of the east under water anyone remember 1953?

Dr. C. do you really leave heating on all night! Mine is on from 6.30 to 9.00 in the morning and 5-9 in the evening. Our old stone built house retains heat well but when it is very cold I just wear more clothes.

I eat very little animal products or much fat, so consequently I don't carry the usual stone or three of extra weight like most people do that keeps them warm. I feel the cold, so I keep the house warm all the time.
Funny that, they tell us to eat less meat to cut down on emissions. Then we have to turn up the gas central heating to keep warm. But my decision about eating meat has got nothing to do with concerns about the environment or animal rights.
Yes I do leave the heating on all night sageform. I eat very little animal products or much fat, so consequently I don't carry the usual stone or three of extra weight like most people do that keeps them warm. I feel the cold, so I keep the house war
Fair enough, I am not overweight and do feel the cold but can manage on the number of hours mentioned for central heating. My wife or I occasionally put on an electric fire in one room if we feel like it.
