I don't see any reason why Iran would shoot down an airplane, when they have been so careful not to cause any harm to the actual people they are fighting.
Even if we assume they wanted to bring that plane down, why would they do that with a missile? The plane was in their country. They could have sabotaged it with some technical stuff. Or put a suicide bomber on it. Why would they do something that would be evident just by examining the wreckage? |

By the way, the 'not handing over black boxes to US or Boeing' has been given way too much coverage, and just shows how you can spin something to look like something else.
Iran said they will investigate it with the help of Ukrainian aviation officials. If that doesn't work out they will ask the french or the Canadians for help. And publish the results for everyone. That sounds fair? There were no US citizens on board, so no reason for the US govt to get involved. The manufacturer may have a right to be an observer, but their help hasn't been sought. |

Because there aren't any direct flights to canada and the ukraine route is a very cheap option for the canadians.
And in case you wonder what the canadians were doing in Iran in the first place, I doubt those 60 canadians looked like jim carrey or pamela anderson. Probably all dual nationals. |
