Was watching the documentary about him on BBC2 earlier ...

https://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail/1779889/18141881/dave-allen-gods-own-comedian
.
"A look at the life, work and legacy of Irish comedy writer and performer Dave Allen, who started his career in entertainment as a Butlin's Redcoat. He first found fame as a chat-show host in Australia in the 1960s, before he came to Britain and began a career that took in films, plays and documentaries alongside his award-winning comedy series. Featuring interviews with family and friends including Steven Berkoff, Stephen Frears and Maggie Smith, as well as rare archive material"

What a truly tremendous bloke Love My Dad - similar age - was a big fan and I now understand why.  Mum wasn't too keen and discouraged me from watching when I was a wee ankle biter Grin

I only remember him from the 80s with a whisky and a smoke on his stool but it was lovely learning about his history and family life.  What a gentleman Happy

My Dad was a huge fan too. Being a Catholic he loved the religious sketches and stories in particular. One of the greats. I also particularly liked his may your God go with you at the end.

Wondered why we never saw repeats of his programs, but he had it written into his contracts that they would only ever be repeated once. A great shame now that we cannot see this comedy genius programs from years ago.

His comedy show was on TV when I was a young teenager. I remeber liking it and liking his style. He was father Ted before father Ted.

I adore Dave Allen Love

I have rarely fancied any current film star or singer, but Dave Allen ticks all the boxes for me.  He was funny, attractive and sexy. What current 'celebrities' match up to that?
