I was driving along the A75 last night when I seen a meteorite falling to earth, it seemed quite close a couple of fields away and it didn’t burn up until what looked like quite close to the ground although I was in the middle of nowhere so difficult to judge both height and distance.

Saw 1 on New Years Eve a couple of years ago looked as tho it was 10 miles away , turned out it was nearer 200 .What you probably thought was falling to earth was disappearing over the horizon

When one is close you'll see it leave a burning trail, maybe only for a second, and hear a roaring sound.  These are called fireballs and I've been fortunate to see two.

I saw that one too, Geoff.  Plenty did.  Seems it's path was pretty much Newcastle - Carlisle.

Kryptonite green, moved dead slow and a large piece broke off before it died in the south-southwest.  Like you say, it seemed much closer than it was.
