Current deal is up soon and have been offered the following from EE, which I think is very good £13 SIM only, 12 month contract - unlimited calls and texts plus 25gb per month.
Anything better ot there before I put pen to paper?
What that deal highlights is that all SIM contracts are now effectively data contracts, calls and texts are now giveaways.
Anyway, only thought I'd throw in is for you to assess the volume of data that you consume on a monthly basis. Do you need 25GB a month?

There are deals for around £10 for 8 - 10gb, but I would generally use around 4 to 5 gb a week, as don't use work WiFi, as usually on betting sites. So I think this deal prob suits best.

They’ve recently made it even easier to transfer your number from one provider to another. This is good and bad.
Good in that it can all be done without you having to speak to a human. But bad because that previous conversation would inevitably lead to them making you an improved offer.
All providers are desperate to keep subscribers, so definitely worthwhile to try and squeeze a little bit out of the threat of leaving. They’ll either offer a reduced price or an additional benefit at no extra cost.

I have a Samsung D500 which I bought new in June 2006. It works fine still with the original battery. I charge it a couple of times per week, which takes about 30 minutes. I have it switched on 24/7 as I use the alarm on it. It takes photos and videos, although the screen is small. Basic internet but I have laptops for that. Fits in my pocket and is light, unlike my girlfriends touchscreen which is big and heavy. I remember when the obsession was making phones smaller and smaller. Now they're as big as ever.

What we now call a phone is really a small computer that just happens to have telephonic capabilities, lucky if 1% of use of these devices is actually dedicated to making and receiving voice calls.

3 offered me a switch to a sim-only deal for £10 a month, unlimited calls, texts and data when I'd finished off paying for my current phone (before the original contract expired, actually). Not sure whether that's a deal they offer to everyone, though.

There are plenty of good quality mid-priced Android phones. I have a Huawei Y9 2019 dual sim phone that is excellent, don't think it is available in the UK, but similar models exist.
