Always very difficult to judge sportsmen from different eras.
In addition, so much of F1 is dependant on which car you are sitting in. However, Hamilton has won world titles when he wasn't in the best and consistently out drives the field in wet weather. Is he the best ever? Lets wait until his career is over before making a final judgement. What is clear, however, is that he is certainly in the conversation. |

has he won world titles by not being in best car ?

While Lewis Hamilton was busy posting a bawdy video of a Donald Trump doll and a dog, Niki Lauda drew on nearly half a century's experience in Formula One to bestow the biggest accolade a triple world champion can.
'Lewis,' said Lauda of his famed Instagram devotee, 'is now the greatest driver ever.' |

bloody hell, i apologise i forgot to mention schu.
I admit my fav driver was senna, but schu is the best ever imo |

aside from the fact that f1 is not a sport. hamilton is a grotesque and absurd wanchor, with his filthy tribal markings, piercings, and ludicrously expensive shabby chic clobber. why does anyone care about the status of such a revolting piece of filth?
only a tragic knobhead would consider evaluating his worthlessness, and theres no shortage of them on here. walofs this thread is. |

He was blubbering about "racist abuse" last week
6 world titles. I'm half expecting the reason he's not surpassed Schu yet is because of "racism" Absolutely pathetic character and a piece of s*** The end |

Lewis Hamilton on team radio "was the stopping to early because I'm mixed race, racists?"
"come on, racists, 6 world titles but you robbed me of one because I'm mixed race" |

The hatred expressed on this forum never ceases.
Is it borne from envy, or is there an alternative explanation? |
|
By:
Have you just seen what he has done bringing that car in?
if he beats verstappen, vettel and leclerc next season then he is the tops |
|
By:
Well, I'm not envious but would wonder if Lewis really gives much of a sh*t about climate change etc??

Lewis Hamilton on radio "your jobs are safe for another week, racists. If it wasn't for my superb talent you'd be out of a job"

He has done it....... Lewis Hamilton, for the 10th time this season, wins a grand prix.
That is win number 83 of his career, closing in on Michael Schumacher's record of 91. |
|
By:
He's often far quicker than Bottas who is supposed to have the same car.
I reckon he's a very, very fast driver. Mercedes' in race tactics make a mockery of Ferrari's. That helps. Personally I'd like to see F1 drivers be freelance and have to drive a different car each race. Would make for more interesting viewing. The Contructors Championship would be far closer too. |

Hamilton's record tells it own story. Must be up there with the greatest F1 drivers

assuming he win this season, then in his 13 season, he'd of out performed his teammate in the same car 11 times out of 13 which is quite impressive.

In the TV interview pen after the race, Hamilton playfully barged Vettel, making a humorous dig at the German's aggression on the run to the first corner.
Vettel first joked that Hamilton had "got massively lucky". And then said: "If you are a woman on this planet and you have this guy giving you a massage like he's treating the tyres, it's pure magic. Really well done to him that he made the tyres last." Talk to Hamilton's engineers at Mercedes, and they will tell you similar things. Hamilton has a reputation as a blindingly fast driver, whose success is based largely on his qualifying pace and clever race-craft. But that underplays the subtlety of his technical understanding of car and tyres over a grand prix distance, and his ability to modify his driving to fit specific circumstances. "He just has so many tools in his repertoire to adapt his driving," Mercedes chief engineer Andrew Shovlin said recently. This was one of those days when that ability was on display. |

Pound for pound, not even the best British driver ever.
|
|
By:
Alain Prost was probably the best technical driver . When a car was set up correctly no one was as fast as Prost
And he was more technically gifted at knowing how to do that than others |
|

congratulations to lewis, he is right up there in the pantheon of all time sporting gods with phil taylor, eric bristow, steve davis and stephen hendry.

not a patch on Fangio; the "maestro" used to throw sewing machines around bends at over 100 mph; eat dinner, drink 4 bottles of wine & then bang half of Monza. Still wearing his flat cap & scarf

The Formula1.com website states of Fangio: "Many consider him to be the greatest driver of all time."[3] Several highly successful later drivers, such as Jim Clark, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, have been compared with Fangio, however the qualities required for success, levels of competition, and racing rules have changed over time.
"You must always strive to be the best, but you must never believe that you are." —Juan Manuel Fangio[49] His record of five World Championship titles stood for 45 years before German driver Michael Schumacher surpassed it in 2003. Schumacher said, "Fangio is on a level much higher than I see myself. What he did stands alone and what we have achieved is also unique. I have such respect for what he achieved. You can't take a personality like Fangio and compare him with what has happened today. There is not even the slightest comparison."[50][51] When Lewis Hamilton equaled Fangio's five titles in 2018 he praised Fangio calling him the "Godfather of our sport"[52] Thanks Bap. I had only heard his name before. Shirly the best? |
