crossing so many utopian EU States to get to Brexit Britain?

Has no one told them what an economic backwater Britain is going to become? Confused

Only very few in comparison, but extremely sad given the same result about 20 years ago. Not too sure what the attraction The UK presents but have noticed lately employment in mini-construction eg private dwellings (not big buildings); catering and restaurant/takeaway are too authority monitored these days to remain unnoticed (if paperless); cabbing is not an option either given issues with language and knowledge of London and driving.

I hope the people responsible would be brought to task soon and eventually.

The Vietnamese family is said to have paid £30,000 to get one young woman trafficked to Britain. Even if we discount her being forced into slavery or sex work, one has to doubt that is a good investment. Surely anyone who can pick up a job paying enough to cover £30,000 quickly and easily, could also command an upper-middle class professional lifestyle at home.

Yes the £30,000 made me think very similar ramruma,I should think there a many people in the uk who will never be able to pull that much up.no matter what the reasons or the views of anyone, the text message sent by that young girl to her mum was heartbreaking.

Migrants are usually cash rich. But 30k does seem a lot. She could have paid a few Ks for a university admission and come here on a first class flight.

Not sure what route these people take from Vietnam but that could be a reason for the high price. Or it could be a VIP smuggling operation.

As for the 30k, it is quite possible the family sold a piece of land or a house to finance this(or just a bank job). As I said, migrants aren't poor people. If they were poor, they wouldn't be able to afford crossing the Vietnamese border, let alone a dozen international borders.

As for the question of what attracts people to risk their lives to come to UK, it is the promise of a better life, a more powerful passport, strong currency etc. That you think UK is a shethole is irrelevant. If you were born in Vietnam in a corrupt society, had no hope for the future and were stuck within the borders for the rest of your life, you would think differently of UK.

People here have plenty to worry about without trying to 'understand' illegal economic migrants.

Agree. But the thread title asked for us to think about it. And clearly many posters here use their own perception of their country to decide if its worth for someone in Vietnam to risk his live to come here.

I think the thread title was possibly posed when we were being led to believe these people were most likely slaves who had been forced into the lorry.

When I said 'understand' I didn't mean understand and be supportive of what these people are doing. I just mean that people should understand such acts are done because the migrants have a different perception of what UK is than you. Its their perception that makes them do this, not your perception of UK.

The rest will stay the same. There will be a few more stories about what migrants do to get here, what are the popular ports, who's in on it etc etc. They will die after a week and it will be business as usual. This publicity is neither good for the government nor for the migrants.

Some families from Vietnam have come forward voluntarily claiming it was their kids. I am believing them, though I wouldn't be able to tell you why if you asked.

I don't know what you are implying. What am I not seeing? Please be direct.

Now that I think about it, i really am an idiot. There might not even be any dead bodies. No one has seen them after all.

Could this be a conspiracy by the government to bring a bad name to human smugglers and honest migrants?

Could it be China forcing Vietnam to claim it was their citizens? China can do without this bad publicity of people running away from their country like that.

Three lorries were part of this one small shipment/organisation.  100+ people?  Is that right.  If so I will have to upgrade my assessment of population - I was ridiculed over it  ie we hit 70 million several years ago

How many of these organisations are at work - 1 in 1000 lorries checked -

people at port destinations saying it has been going on for years

vans like taxis waiting for people  - do the maths

no wonder when I go into town I hear so many languages  - go and see for yourselves people

100 per day 300 days = 30,000  - how many ports do they come in to  ?  Ten?   400,000 undocumented over how many years

No wonder they say supermarkets and others plan for 80 million    -

The families of these tragic people would have saved-up, begged and borrowed to pay for the  trip. It could the beginning of an exodus for each of these family, if successful. Immigrants are hardworking and savers so could possibly accumulate the money necessary for another family member to do the same.

It just shows how lucky and fortunate most of us are in The UK. And, I hope the immigrants too and not abused our hospitality and opportunities; do not be greedy.
