If I've interpreted the law correctly, even if you're in a relationship, technically you should ask permission before you kiss your partner or put your arms round her waist.

My previous post wasn't trying to justify what Gazza has allegedly done.

The 17 year-old's incident was ridiculous.

However, if Paul Gascoigne suddenly slobbered unbidden over my face I wouldn't be too chirpy either.  He is weak and a disgrace.

However, the law states that sexual assault is defined as unwanted touching of any part of the body in a sexual manner.  The problem is, imho, it won't always be easy to determine whether it was in a sexual manner and you won't always know if it is wanted.

Hence my comment about asking for permission.

I'm not really up to speed on legal matters in such cases but if convicted then I assume that will be of sexual assault and he gets put on the sex offenders list and a possible custodial?

As for sexual assault, well i'd like to know more about this lady because if it was the 'man next door' the damage has been done already, in many ways.

Different accused different result as at the very least this was a common assault being unwanted and deliberate physical contact on the lips by a stranger to the victim who must be totally bewildered by the jury system.
