Just got my second 3 in 1 and they have pretty much, shut the door, on buying ink from other sources....
With my first one they would "grumble" that "we notice you are not using Epson ink, buy Epson ink now" after buying vastly cheaper alternatives!
Perseverance would allow me to continue, until later it wasn't possible, so faced with paying £45 for four cartridges, I thought, to hell with that I can buy a new
updated model for £50.00...
So I have, but now they have completely shut the door on, for instance, refilling the supplied cartridges, by making them for "set up only"!
That means it will be necessary to buy at least one set, and I'm suspicious that they may only provide partially filled cartridges, with new printers!
If that is the case, aside from being bloody minded, the benefit of simply buying a new one is diminished!
Don't get me wrong on this, as obviously the printers are ridiculously cheap in the first place, so for them they have to claw back some profit!
Do any of you, more streetwise than me, have a way round this, and also do you know if the same applies to other manufactures?

I bought some black ink yesterday. 5.3ml for £11.99. The equivalent weight of pure silver costs approximately £2.40.
I have a Brother, no issues using cheap cartridges
As things are you can't even get a few quid for sale of the older one because who is going to pay, even as little as £15.00,

never ever buy an epson printer. Their ink is extortionate, sometimes won't be accepted by the printer. Canon are far better.
I'm thinking that next time, I will just shell out for the ink, and then get a refill kit that would seem to be
a decent proposition!

Have an Epson XP352 bought my 4 replacement cartridges from Cartridgesave .co.uk from memory 28 quid for 4 work no problem [so far].
Have a look at the Epsom Eco Tank 2700.

I've just printed one A4 colour photo on gloss paper, and set to "Quality High" and it's used a third of the ink,
which confirms to me that the supplied cartridges are only partly filled!
Just ordered new, authentic ones from "The Cartridge People" for £28.49, which is £6.00 less than Argos!

Just watched a couple of videos, and there is no way I'm going to get into this pullover....lol
Of course those selling refill kits are not going to tell you it's a bag of rats and some specialist gadgets are needed to reset the chip to zero!
If you don't do that it will show as empty, even though you filled it...
Also there is more, about there being three chambers in the cartridge, and a diaphragm, and the need need to remove air locks,
and all sorts of hassle!

What is your Epson Printer (version) Number - and how old is it?

Only one minor comparability issue with some from China, whereby I had to change all 4 colours - under instruction from the Chinks - to get an empty Black to work ... But no problems, either before or since, with other suppliers.
Have you registered your Printer with Epson, or something, whereby they know all about/or have some kind of control over your Printer.
Not getting my head around your issue, really - especially as, otherwise, the COUNTLESS, OTHER Cartridge suppliers out there on the Web would all be out of business OVERNIGHT.

onlooker I had exactly the same issue and it wasn't isolated as internet research confirmed. I got a lifetimes supply of ink from china, but the printer refused to accept it.
I save about £170 a year on ink for about 30 minutes work,i find its easy money.
Obviously if you print less the incentive is less .Plus i resent being treated as a milkable commodity by the manufacturer.

dave1357 - The issue WAS resolved when I DID change All the Colours ... Have you tried that?

It was a complete change and after the non-epson inks didn't work the genuine epson didn't work either. Printer is long gone and I won't buy another epson product. Had a hewlett packard before the epson, but the inks fouled up the jets if not used for a period, so useless for occasional printing. I now have a canon one which had full ink cartridges at new and the replacements aren't extortionate and the ink doesn't foul up.

Watching this video, and others will show that it isn't feasible unless the counter is reset....

I had a cheap Epsom.
I bought several compatible cartridge sets, but had trouble with them lining up and matching the terminals on the printer plus other problems.
So I gave up on the four-cartridge system, abandoned the printer and replaced it with a cheap HP that has a two-cartridge system.
The cartridges I use now are extra large and re-fillable. I've re-filled them several times and no problems.
Here's a tip if you fill your own.
Sometimes the cartridge dries up, it might be that just one of the colours won't flow.
What you do is place it in a shallow container, with just enough water to come up the bottom of the step on the cartridge.
Leave it until it clears. I've left then two days in water, but they always clear eventually.
I never use special ink either, any universal ink will do.

The cartridges I use on the HP are standard. But they can be re-filled by peeling back the label and exposing the filling holes.

I'll run with what I have for now (the new cartridges came today), so hopefully they will last a while if I stop doing A4 glossy,
high quality photos,for all and sundry!
