Interested on how I can tackle this, going forward.

Cut a long intro story short, I've got an extensive criminal record which obviously/deservedly precludes me from ever having a proper job. Anyway, I got a job, through a mate, in the steel industry in SOUTH WALES and was made redundant in late 2017 because of steel prices. Since then, I do the same job, somewhat irregularly, via an agency.

I digress. They instruct me, by text, to work 11pm Sunday to 7am this morning.  I turn up and they say it's an agency error and they don't need me. Because of my undeserved drink driving ban, I'm stranded 15 miles from my house at 11:15pm on a Sunday night. I return home, at a loss of ~£17, at about 2am.

She texts me again, asking me to work the Monday/Tuesday night shift, to which I agree. Then asks me to work the Monday afternoon shift at about 10am, which is impossible; because I haven't slept and am drunk. The she starts victim blaming me, because I should have confirmed at 9pm on Sunday night that the shift was a go-er.

This is a total farce. They have also lost my ID/documents and failed to send them to a 3rd party who deal with pay roll.

Should I ask for some kind of compensation?  I think I've very clearly been wronged here.

It's the extras that make me sceptical, rather than any holes. IF genuine, I apologise.

That rebuttal is very vague. Just be specific, nail your colours to the mast.

Ok, I'll play...

Why mention your extensive criminal record? Doesn't seem relevant.

In what way was your drink-drive ban undeserved?

How did you travel 15 miles in 2.75 hours and why did this cost you £17?

Why had you not slept between arriving home and 10am the following day?

If you've been working for them since 2017, how have they been paying you?

I'm shocked---always thought you were a pro poker player.

It's possible that you might of been in the past and it got more difficult year by year.

1. It explains why I have to do these [i****[/i] jobs.
2. I wasn't drunk but was over the limit when pulled, having been drinking the night before.
3. I was with another guy in the same situation. He knew a mate/taxi driver and we walked about 2 hours and were driven the rest of the way.
4. I just don't sleep well.
5. I worked for them since 2015, 1 agency recently went bust and the new one is causing me these problems.

JML, I am a profitable poker player, but not to the extent that I can do it for a living. It sure does get harder year on year though.

Hi Richie hope you're getting the good looking sheep these days.

When you say: she starts victim blaming me, because I should have confirmed at 9pm on Sunday night that the shift was a go-er. was that for the Sunday night shift? I.e. did you just turn up for the Sunday night shift without confirming that you would?

All sheep look the same from behind....

I think I've written that badly now I read it again. The shift was offered and I agreed. To my mind, there should be no further confirmation from my end.

I'll try and screen dump the messages and post them, I'm not sure how to to do it though, so no promises.

It says this on google but it just doesn't work, I've had this phone for a while but I've never saved a screen shot to the photo gallery.

Well, I'm no moral lodestar but you will all have to take my word for this then. I've been on here for years and don't have a reputation as a liar or whatever.

Agency: Hi guys booking in Sunday night shifts please can you confirm you are available 11pm to 6am many thanks

Me: Where is it please?

Agency: In treforest

Me: That's fine. Thanks.

What times were involved?
Do they have a rule where you have to confirm two hours before the sift that you will be there?

You come back home at 2pm and get a text from work asking you to work Monday morning 10am.
You say you can't work that early coz your drunk but when and how did you get drunk when you came back home at 2?
Also she can't ask you to confirm something 6 hours before she tells you that you have the shift.

I'm. Pretty sure I've misunderstood something there or you've posted wrong time-line. Hence the holes.

Back at 2am mush.
I was awake, in a fit of pique, until about 10:30am when I went to the off licence.
Think wires are crossed on the 3rd part.

Well if they asked you to turn up for a shift and you confirmed you would and did so then I'd say you deserve compensation. Certainly for travel expenses plus wasted time.

My opinion isn't worth a lot though, apart from moral support, as I have no experience of these types of thing. Try CAB but you also have to balance things with the possibility of getting further work from the agency and other agencies they know.
By:
Richie_Burnett

Balancing future earnings was in my mind when I pathetically agreed to work night's today. Then she moved the goalposts again to working 8 hours earlier and I just can't do it because I haven't slept and also been drinking.

Yeah I meant 2am. How can you get home from work at 2am, be told you have to work in the morning, be already drunk enough to decide you won't make it by 10am and on top of all that be told that you had to confirm that at 9pm when that 9pm was about 6 hours before you found out you had to work.

This is chit chat. You need to get your story straight before we get to workers rights.

FFS.

I didn't work at 11pm last night. I walked from Nantgarw to Hopkinstown with a guy who was in the same boat. Then he got his "mate" who was a cab driver, to take him to Tonypandy, where he lives, then he took me, alone, to the top of the valley for £10. Fkn google the times if you don't believe me.

I wasn't drunk at 10am but I hadn't slept for ages so I ruled an afternoon shift out. I cracked and got drunk from 11am to now. I think you've have misread something.

The fkn timeframe is irrelevant, in any case.

OP is either a forum fisherman or a waster who likes to play the victim card.

If the “extensive criminal record” bit is true, he deserves nothing but contempt from genuine hard working folks. Probably a Corbyn supporter.

And as for sanctimony, you’re equally guilty of that vice - coupled with hypocrisy for good measure.

I’ve seen loads like the OP on site. A couple weeks of below par work out of them (turning up late, hungover, whining about transport etc) until one day they don’t show up at all.

Basically useless, just want to live on hand outs.
