Six years ago a virus attacked my heart, it was touch and go according to the specialist. I thought nothing of it at the time, and think nothing of it now.

What do you guys think?

Everyone is afraid of death it is a human instinct...I am not so sure animals do, I don't think they know what it is

If we were in great pain physical or mental we may seek death...but that is only to end the pain
Report Foinavon September 20, 2019 12:33 AM BST
I'm not afraid of death just the prospect of an undignified run up to it. Not just yet though as I still have a number of books I'd like to read first.
Report Pokermonster September 20, 2019 1:25 AM BST
I agree entirely, Mr F.

Death comes for us all. The best one can hope for is to meet it swiftly and, as you say, with dignity. Like most, though, I worry more for my family than myself.

Best wishes.

You do not need to be afraid of death, i died 8 years ago and there is nothing, you are just not living any more, nothing to see!
Report detraveller September 20, 2019 8:09 AM BST
Death is game over. So there's nothing to be scared about. Things change if you believe in afterlife though. Or if you have people that depend on you, like kids.

As others have pointed out, its not death itself that is scary. its the manner, or the consequences of it that make people scare of dying.

Report detraveller September 20, 2019 9:06 AM BST
The trick is to die without letting the thought of it cross your mind. its just the thought that's terrible, not death itself.

Report lfc1971 September 20, 2019 10:03 AM BST
I would quite like Britain to be the first country in the world to put an end to the madness

And stop reproducing

Maybe the rest of the world would follow our good example
Report lfc1971 September 20, 2019 10:06 AM BST
Ideally leaving only the tress and the rivers and the hills and the clouds ,
and perhaps giraffes and elephants , that’s all
That would be wonderful
Report lfc1971 September 20, 2019 10:17 AM BST
We use our minds to try and restrict the true reality , ( as detraveller says)
so we don’t have a proper consciousness of life and the world and death and how terrible it really is

i thought about it a lot as a child; my best friend at school woke up one day with a lump in his neck, we were both 8 & three months later he was gone from us. I asked questions continually (no answers were satisfactory) about why this happened & why not to me etc. It shaped my life really as 'normal' things that would worry a child didn't seem to bother me. I turned cold to some extent & that lasted until i was well into my teens & the love for someone else made me revaluate things. I decided to live for each day & never worry about myself; this of course drives others around me nuts & always has. I guess i'm saying i don't care about death; it's the living that bothers me

Which I'll explain for those who are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Dying can be very painful, but there's no pain once you're gone.
And people like my good self will surely get whisked off to heaven pretty pronto, where the sun is guaranteed to shine on the righteous, all-inclusive of course.

Whether people admit or not then we are all at least partly afraid of death

UBLE. I have to disagree, I genuinely did not worry about it, I mentally shrugged my shoulders and thought 'fck all I can do about it' I wasn't being brave or anything just resigned to the fact that it comes to us all at some point.

As an aside I went in on a Saturday morning, I was hooked up to 2 machines that bleeped if you blinked didn't see the specialist untill Monday 11am, the whole ward was going off (bleeping)every few minutes, nursing staff just ignored it.

The specialist was accompanid by a "ward manager" (Sister) who asked can we send this patient home today!! this man is going nowhere he's very ill, came the reply. I then said can I please have some anti biotics for this pneumonia before I run out of oxygen. I was given Intravenous Antibiotics after 2 1/2 of being there, FFS.

Weekends are the deffo the worst time to be admitted. The hospital is University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire.

I've been told my palm indicates a clear and long life line, and that's given me food for thought eg:-
1) I do not really want that (max 80)
2) I do not wish to be in a care home
3) Would that mean I'd be in pain, yet living?
4) Might I need to take unpleasant and unethical action, if ill?

I'd only want to live when I'm still an able-bodied person, and not wholly reliant on others for personal needs.
