Did Mr Kinnock not say something similar eg "get ready, and prepare for government", only to lose the election to John Major after leading in the polls. By the way, why was John Major knighted?

I did not like his politics, but respected his views as he was considerably older than me then - I was still at college and just beginning to follow politics; he was left-wing, I knew that. But, I thought it would be extremely difficult for Labour to win an election with him as leader.
The Labour Party could have achieved much more if Healey and Smith had been leader (Smith was) and (probably) PM instead of (Kinnock) and Blair after the wilderness years whilst Maggie was head honcho; Blair turned the Party 180 degrees which caused the resurgence of leftist politics; Corbyn (Marxist) and Mc Donnell (will be remembered for waving that famous "red book" at the Despatch Box) are turning genuine Labour supporters away in droves.
