There has apparently been talk of her beating Labour's majority from the 1997 general election.

Did Mr Kinnock not say something similar eg "get ready, and prepare for government", only to lose the election to John Major after leading in the polls. By the way, why was John Major knighted?

Virtually yes  - and look how that turned out

members and comrades left in the dirt and slipstream as the kinnocks milked the eu gravy train for all it was worth

turned from an anti eu stance to what -  ha haaha   I have been a member for a very long time and seen them ditch clause 4 too

amazing scenes  ho ho

I think it David Steel who said: 'Go back to you constituencies and prepare for government!'.

Yah, and I think Kinnock "celebrated" the day or night before the election, if memory serves.

And the SDP won six seats in 1982.

Boris Johnson apparently said in his speech when he won Henley in 2001: 'Go back to your constituencies and prepare for breakfast!'.

Yes impossible - and it is said that ridiculous spectacle of the Sheffield rally was the main cause of the Labour defeat in 1992 - 'We're all right!'Crazy

No need to speak about old Labour in that way, impossible!
By:

Old Labour did not have self-interest at the forefront; Blair the instigator and leader. And, Kinnock learnt from him ie "can't beat them, join them", and onto The EU gravy train he went. Soon, his son Stephen would follow suit - history repeating itself (when the system allows).

What was your opinion of Michael Foot's tenure as Labour leader?
By:

When: 19 Sep 19 00:05
I did not like his politics, but respected his views as he was considerably older than me then - I was still at college and just beginning to follow politics; he was left-wing, I knew that. But, I thought it would be extremely difficult for Labour to win an election with him as leader.

The Labour Party could have achieved much more if Healey and Smith had been leader (Smith was) and (probably) PM instead of (Kinnock) and Blair after the wilderness years whilst Maggie was head honcho; Blair turned the Party 180 degrees which caused the resurgence of leftist politics; Corbyn (Marxist) and Mc Donnell (will be remembered for waving that famous "red book" at the Despatch Box) are turning genuine Labour supporters away in droves.

but parachute the eu living and eu loving son into a safe seat  - like that creap starmer says to me the party still does the old boys act again

now we have a load of lecturers and students running the NEC  - - there will be many more splits, defections and reselections

I'm not a boobs man. I like them small, pert, no more than a handful.  But whenever I see Jo Swineson, I can't help but stare at her chest.
