I was a member at Virgin. They had a similar scheme. The gym was originally Esporta and when I transferred to Virgin I signed a Diamond Membership which fixed my fee for life and use of other clubs.
They get round this by having exclusive clubs and also banding. Virgin then changed to Nuffield who said I could use their other clubs. When I tried to use the one in SW London again I was told this was a Premium or Exclusive Club. I got in for free but they told me the next time it would be a tenner!
You cannot win with these gyms. If a sales person gives you the spiel ask them to put it in writing. Many Gyms have access to all their clubs but there are usually small print clauses and London Clubs are often excluded.

Living Well had that in the early / mid 2000s - including a reciprocal deal with Hilton Hotels. Superb deal for I was a service engineer in those days and visited most of the premises in Scotland. Bannerman's took 'em over and members had to choose which they wanted to choose. I choose to fook off cos they raised the membership fees too. Kants.

A friend and I attempted to join a gym back in our naive student days. There were big signs up informing the reader that joining-up fees were scrapped for that week. We decided to join and filled out the forms, which were surprisingly long-winded and took about 10-15 minutes. We were then told that whilst there wasn't a signing-up fee, there was an 'admin fee' of £49. We told them where to pop their admin fee and walked out.
