The Business Secretary has revealed the Tories will field a candidate against Mr Bercow in his Buckingham constituency, despite this breaching long-standing convention. Ms Leadsom claimed Mr Bercow had “failed” in his role and had permitted a “flagrant abuse” of the parliamentary process. Ms Leadsom wrote in the Mail on Sunday that the Speaker’s role was to be “a politically impartial, independent umpire of proceedings”.

This is because he was given the role “to protect the constitution and oversee the behaviour of the House

But she added: “Last week, the current Speaker failed us.

noses out of joint because they tried to pull a fast one to play parliament out the equation....only to find they were given the chance to cut boris' balls off before the closure and now boris stuck and the plan unravelled Sad

I'm an independent observer. I'd have Bercow as a Wet as Thatcher likened them. Guess if he was still a serving MP, he'd be one of the 21 who got the elbow last week.

Let's assume he was a leaving inspired ex Labour MP or even an ex Tory but in the Bill Cash mode, I wonder what then his take on parliamentary procedure would be? I can guess.

That analysis makes me think it was just the luck of the draw that Bercow was in the hot seat at this time. Or not, depending on your view over all this.
