Millions of sensible British children were brought up on Enid Blyton books, by wonderful parents. That's something we can profoundly rejoice about.

Maybe we should go back to the days of burning books . I know what one I'd start with

enid blyton books were changed in the 70s to remove all the potential racist stuff
seems odd to whine about it 40 odd years later plenty 60s editions of the books still kicking around. |

The first thing people say about a dictatorship is they burn books
This is our equivalent. The only thing that needs to be done is to add a page to the inside of these books saying it reflects the ATTITUDES OF THE TIMES I really don't think Enid Blyton ever corrupted anybody ![]() ![]() |

yes uble, i watch a load of exellent old films on talking pictures and nearly all of them say that before the film.

Surprised that Blyton's case for Royal Mint recognition hasn't been pushed today by the highly-respected (well, amongst Lefty Progressives) "Trans" community. The 'Georgina' character in the Famous Five books identified as a boy as I remember it.
How come Blyton isn't being lauded for pushing the idea (to impressionable children) even decades ago that girls can actually be boys? This is, after all pretty much State School educational policy these dark days. |
|
By:
They were called 'tom boys' then
We have always had them and always will That is a long way from saying girls can be boys.... The more we push this rubbish, the more it tells me the Muslims will win...all they have to do is stay the same Let children grow up naturally, make their own choices. |
|
By:
Indeed, George would have given you a black eye had you called her Georgina to her face, Alun!
Just stumbled across the RM story https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/enid-blyton-50p-coin-stopped-by-royal-mint-over-authors-racist-and-homophobic-views/ar-AAGotqb? . Madeley's quite correct and shame on whoever made this decision in the Mint. There needs to be a petition! |

'So therefore we can only commemorate those who had progressive views ahead of their time.'
Helen on the Daily Mail comment section sums it up rather well.. |

I'm not usually on the side of the 'PC Brigade' but I can somewhat see their point here
"Once the three bold golliwogs, Golly, Woggie, and Ni**er, decided to go for a walk to Bumble-Bee Common. Golly wasn't quite ready so Woggie and Ni**er said they would start off without him, and Golly would catch them up as soon as he could. So off went Woggie and Ni**er, arm-in-arm, singing merrily their favourite song -- which, as you may guess, was Ten Little Ni**er Boys " ![]() |

Be only one Book the Beeb will want people reading ,Enid did not write it .
|
|
By:
we never used to have these issues
|
|
By:
Did Enid Blyton write that Tobermory?.
If she did it would have been acceptable at the time Have you any ideas what our values will be in 100 years time? Authors can only write for the time they are in. They cannot foresee what future attitudes will be. The best way of dealing with this is as they do on Talking Pictures TV Put a note in the book saying the book reflected the attitude of the times..... |
