Exactly.

I would imagine that you could say that islamic law is barbaric and that islamic countries mistreat women and that would be a valid opinion in a "religious studies" exam.  The story as reported seems quite bizarre.

Why do you believe I am talking in riddles? You said:

This is either a teaching issue or a marking issue. So it's the Tories either way. If it's not please give a reasoned argument. Or maybe it's not an issue at all.

The point is that any opinion about religion is valid in a religious studies exam.  It may be not result in a pass for that particular section but couldn't possibly result in "disqualification" under any reasonable guidelines.

I didn't really mean that John.

Nandos is mainly non halal, but in places like Bradford it is. Many white Brtits eat there, plus many other restaurants, and as long as the halal tastes nice, they're not concerned.

Example, about a year ago I went in Nandos Bradford just to check that it was halal, which it was.

I approached 2 white couples who turned out to be English, and said, I've heard the meat is halal here, don't think I'll eat here. One couple thanked me and said we won't be back, the other said so...
Report kenny mann • August 18, 2019 11:17 PM BST

Not just Bradford, Leeds, Huddersfield etc, and no doubt many other citys like Birningham, white Brits consuming halal, which is part of their plan.

I would not be bothered by eating Halal meat, but if the animal's death has been prolonged by the halal method of slaughter,

I would not want to eat it
Report DenzilPenberthy • August 19, 2019 2:38 PM BST
The animal to be slaughtered must be from the categories that are permitted for Muslims to eat.
The animal must be alive at the time of slaughter.
The animal must be slaughtered by the use of a sharp knife. The knife must not kill due to its weight. If it kills due to the impact the meat may not be permissible.
The slaughtering must be done in one stroke without lifting the knife. The knife should not be placed and lifted when slaughtering the animal.
Slaughtering must be done by a sane adult Muslim. Animals slaughtered by a Non Muslim will not be Halal.
The name of Allah must be invoked (mentioned) at the time of slaughtering by saying: Bismillah Allahu Akbar. (In the Name of Allah; Allah is the Greatest.)
If at the time of slaughtering the name of anyone else other than Allah is invoked (i.e. animal sacrificed for him/her), then the meat becomes Haram “unlawful.”
If a Muslim forgets to invoke the name of Allah at the time of slaughtering, the meat will remain Halal. However, if he intentionally does not invoke the name of Allah, the meat becomes Haram.
The head of the animal must not be cut off during slaughtering but later after the animal is completely dead, even the knife should not go deep into the spinal cord.
Skinning or cutting any part of the animal is not allowed before the animal is completely dead.
Slaughtering must be made in the neck from the front (chest) to the back.
The slaughtering must be done manually not by a machine, as one of the conditions is the intention, which is not found in a machine.
The slaughtering should not be done on a production line where pigs are slaughtered. Any instrument used for slaughtering pigs should not be used in the Halal slaughtering.

Slaughtering must be done by a sane adult Muslim.
Think they put this rule in for humour purposes

This is exactly how it is in Europe. You stun and then you do with the animal what you please.

The question is how strictly this is enforced. Jews don't stun, or else it ain't kosher. Muslims do the same. But only when they have control over the slaughter. if it says halal on a packaging, you don't know if the animal was stunned or not. Legally, it should have been stunned, in most of Europe I would say.

Halal slaughter is one of those topics where people love to whine about how barbaric this Islamic practice is but don't bother asking why the law of the land isn't enforced.

It's called "Tonic Immobility"
Lots of animals have reactions like that.
When you scruff a cat it goes into a relaxed trance-like state.
Chickens can be made to lie still with their head flat to the ground
if you draw a line in chalk rapidly moving away from them.
Doves are popular with magicians cos of the same response.
Sharks do it if you tickle their noses - good luck practicing that one.
