With cheddar on a sandwich, lovely.
Just had a sausage sandwich with peanut butter, lovely.

It's official, it's the world's greatest food.

I don’t like peanut butter but it’s supposed to be good for you so maybe I’ll give it another go.

It's high in fat but filling just don't overdo it. Which I obviously am :) The Tesco crunchy own brand is a fraction of the price of the branded stuff and I don't taste a difference.

Has to be crunchy - only true heathens eat the smooth

It's relatively rare to get them here I think but you can get peanut curries. I need to try that next, just lob some peanut butter in a thai sauce or something!

Green Pesto Tortelloni is the evening's banquet.

Even I am not mad enough to try peanut butter with that.. should I though.

Actually .. just checked (tm). It works. I was 100% sure it wouldn't, but it does!

I haven’t been getting enough protein so I’m going to make some peanut protein bars using this recipe...

....and using this peanut  butter...

I need to buy the ingredients first. I will report back when I’ve made them Happy

Even on porridge? But I shall be making some of my own pretty soon.
Report Just Checking August 17, 2019 9:16 PM BST
Well it's a good source of protein but a fair bit of fat. Of course you may be slim as a slim thing anyway!Wink
I like low flat cheese. Quark is fantastic as it's ridiculously high in protein for the calories and you can cook with it as well.
Have a look at that.
Report peckerdunne August 17, 2019 9:20 PM BST
Tiger Woods eats peanut butter and banana sarnies on his round.

The cheap stuff is full of crap, the good stuff wont have all that oily **** on top after opening.

I'm not mad on it myself.

The body can only process a limited amount of protein regardless of intake.
Report impossible123 August 17, 2019 9:22 PM BST
100% roasted peanuts (no skin) with a touch of honey perhaps - definitely no palm oil. Could also be used it to make satay sauce when and if need be. But, not with porridge though.

No, I’m not as slim as a slim thing. I need to lose a stone Shocked

I’m not frightened of fat in my diet. I can lose weight easily when I put my mind to it. Low carb, low sugar, count calories and only eat between 12.00 pm and 6.00pm apart from Sunday when I have a cooked breakfast. I have lots of lovely green smoothies but I do lack protein as I eat very little meat.

I’ve just been carrying an extra stone round with me for the last 12 months and it’s time for it to go.

Revels are my downfall, especially the orange ones Blush
Report Makybe_Diva August 17, 2019 9:34 PM BST

I think peanut butter is a bit like marmite. What's wrong with jam or cheese on your toast?  And there are so many varieties of both.
Report Just Checking August 17, 2019 10:33 PM BST
There was a special edition marmite with gold leaf through it a few years ago. Queens jubilee I think, or olympics?
I bought a jar and keep it in a safe place, I'm going to sell it on ebay when I'm retired, it's basically my pension fund Laugh

Report Makybe_Diva August 18, 2019 3:06 PM BST
I won’t be making any peanut butter protein bars. I thought they would be a good source of protein, as I know I don’t get enough.
I need about 50 grams a day. I haven’t been getting anywhere near that much.

A tablespoon of peanut butter has 100 calories and 4 grams of protein, and a 150 gram skinless chicken breast has 165 calories and 34 grams of protein.

I eat eggs for protein. I large egg is about 80 calories and has over 6 grams protein.

I don’t think peanut butter is good way of increasing my protein intake, I’ll eat more chicken instead. Free range of course.
Report impossible123 August 18, 2019 3:56 PM BST
Protein is soya bean, is it not? Or tofu.

Same, although I run 5k daily so I can stuff my face with them. Do you remember the coconut Revels? The King of Confectionery.
Report impossible123 August 18, 2019 4:43 PM BST
Tofu (two versions eg firm and wobbly) is bland and tasteless on its own, but shallow fried in little oil (it firms up), and eaten with chilli or soya sauce or in soup (wobbly one) is tasty. It's filling; 100% protein, I believe - the Chinese love it.
Report Johnny_Mustang August 18, 2019 4:44 PM BST

Report impossible123 August 18, 2019 4:46 PM BST

Report Johnny_Mustang August 18, 2019 4:49 PM BST
From BBC:

Although accurate figures are difficult to obtain, China is believed to be responsible for the majority of global cases of cat and dog slaughter.
Each year, around four million cats and 10 million dogs are believed to be slaughtered in the country. The Humane Society says the majority are stolen pets and strays that are captured and kept in cages.
The tradition of eating dogs dates back thousands of years, even though they are often kept as pets.
Each year in June, the city of Yulin in southern China hosts a dog meat festival, where live dogs and cats are sold specifically for eating and an estimated 10,000 are slaughtered for their meat.
But last year saw big protests against the festival from within China as well as in the West.
Report impossible123 August 18, 2019 4:52 PM BST
Let's hope it's not being used in takeaways here. Any unexplained cat or dog missing in your area? I did hear a rumour ages ago in Golders Green about missing cats.
Report Just Checking August 18, 2019 6:26 PM BST
Try red lentils, cheap, easy to cook, very versatile. Can stick them in sauces to thicken them up as well etc.
If you are avoiding meat try Quorn as well, especially the chicken chunks are very versatile.
Report Makybe_Diva August 18, 2019 10:21 PM BST
I’m not really avoiding meat, I’m avoiding calories. But I’m trying to make sure I get 50 grams of protein a day. I do an hours weight training every other day.

I was thinking a chicken breast and a couple of eggs would do it. I always have lots of smoothies, with greens, carrots and apples, mostly.
I make about 6 at a time and freeze them. I eat berries too. I like pizza on a Saturday night, with garlic bread. Just not very much.

I take a multi vitamin, calcium tablets and an Omega 3 tablet, everyday. I work 3-4 days a week and have a very healthy home cooked meal there with lots of veggies, so I don’t do too badly.

I buy two bags of Revels a week and count out 10 and have them with a Cappuccino every evening for a treat Happy
(I have been known to scoff the lot Blush)

I love Smarties, too. I have 16 Smarties as an evening treat.

If you need any advice on healthy eating just let me know Happy

"Food Unwrapped" on C$ is going to talk about protein supplements AND peanut butter tonight, right now.

I normally find this a fairly tabloidy crap show and don't watch it, but I'll watch as it has peanut butter Love, and to see how they can work out how to blame bad peanut butter on Trump and Brexit LaughWhoops

BTW Protein shakes are obviously another way to get protein. Don't buy full price H&B though!
Report Just Checking August 19, 2019 8:06 PM BST
If you already make smoothies chucking in a scoop (or even 1/2) of a suitable whey protein shake sounds a good option. You can buy them with that added anyway, it's not a wierd thing to do!
Report Just Checking August 19, 2019 8:46 PM BST
Peanuts grow underground, I did not know that! But sure enough quick they do. They are like hard little onions.
Report Makybe_Diva August 19, 2019 8:50 PM BST
Thanks, JC. I’ve only just looked on here. I’m going to record it on C4+1

Whey protein sounds like a good idea to add to smoothies.

Can I get it at Tesco, do you know? I can’t be bothered to go to Holland & Barrett Blush
Report Makybe_Diva August 19, 2019 8:51 PM BST
I knew they grew underground and that they aren’t actually nuts. They are a legume, I think Confused
Report Just Checking August 19, 2019 9:04 PM BST
H&B is one source but they regularly have it on 2 for 1 offers it's overpriced I think normal price.
Not sure about Tesco, it's more a "health food" kind of thing. AMazon of course sells it (but it sells everything!).

At a glance Tesco might sell it (I see it online anyway) but the ones I'm seeing are very expensive.

That's the reason they're called peanuts - on account of being a legume, same as peas are.
