Fake or real?
I enjoy watching this, and there is speculation, by some, that it is fake!
I would like to think otherwise;unlike such as "Air Plane Repo", which is unashamedly false, and as such (having watched a couple of times),
it's too annoying to watch again!
What has made me think that the gold hunters is, at least, partially fake are things like the woman who went off on a quad and broke down, and had
no mobile signal, and was facing being stuck there in 40 degree heat, but we are supposed to not realise that the film crew are already there!
Later they came across part of their lease, where poachers had already been, and taken their gold as there were six dig marks.
The woman looked down at her feet and right there was a bottle, almost completely covered, and in it was the gold they had collected!
So we are led to believe, that they just happened to be where this bottle was dropped, and somehow was almost buried!

In general, the activities of the participants are genuine.
They really are searching for gold in the mineral rich country of Australia.
Are certain events dramatized by the producers, absolutely yes.
Are certain events manufactured by the producers, quite possibly.
Gold Rush and Gold Divers similarly dramatize the activities of real gold miners.
The weigh ins are particularly amusing, harmless as the dramatization is, watching gold be poured on to a scale when it has already been weighed or could simply be placed on the scale along with the container from which it is poured, it is purely for titillation.

yeah the other day 2 gold hunters were struggling to find anything and then one goes and finds this pocket watch type case and after opening it it is full of gold soveriengs ,possible but unlikely !
