Why stop at stop and search how about introducing internment for black teenagers.

It is illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade three inches (7.62 cm) or less.
The maximum penalty for carrying an offensive weapon is four years imprisonment and a fine. |

What's wrong with Stop & Search ? I think the answer is rather obvious , don't you ?

Rational analysis:
"We are doctors. People more likey to have condition X should be targeted for screening. Makes sense". "Fair enough". "We are policemen. People more likely to be commiting offence X should be targeted for screening. Makes sense". "You are worse than hitler and obviously believe in death camps". |

Are people held by police while being screened for medical conditions

White English people today have far more deference to authority than in historical times.
If a policy of random stop and search had been introduced in medieval times there would have been an armed uprising. |

I totally agree with HGS, I personally have got absolutely nothing to be worried about as regards to a random stop and search but I'm probably not the 'target audience' having said that!
By:
What's wrong with it is the streets don't belong to the police to decide whether you can carry on walking down them.
By:
Totally agree tobes, just that you shouldn't be able to carry on walking down them carrying.
By:
Carrying a knife is probably essential in some areas though
Can't blame some youths today, self defence Its all well and good people getting on their high horse about it, in their lush middle class areas, with their little gardens and puppies running round , but they don't live in some rough gang infested area do they |
By:
So shall we just live without law and order and let people just keep knifing each other?? I understand the protection theory but how many people are doing time these days 'protecting' themselves? Summats gotta be done.

By:
Clearly it has. But the answer is likely more than just some heavy handed knee jerk reactions designed, in part, to woo voters.

it will be of no use unless sentencing is appropriate. Just letting carriers off with a slapped wrist will not achieve anything

By:
Heavy handed police and black people didn't work very well 40 years ago,i just hope lessons were learnt?
By:
the point of impact may have been "heavy handed:" Terry; but the sentencing wasn't
By:
Back in the day, they were stopped for no reason, only because of the colour of their skin, well at least that's how they felt about it,so we don't want to go back to the bad old days. Knife crime is out of hand for sure and if someone carries one tougher action must be taken whoever it is I agree so its a hard one to get right.
By:
i think most of the black community will be on board with this, Terry but of course there will be dissenters. It has to be done better & more efficiently than last time; & part of that will be more whites/asians - all ethnicities getting stopped. This of course will be difficult in some areas; that's when the community there are vital for this to work
By:
Can’t afford to waste time and money stopping people just because they are white , there’s enough bias against whites people as it is
Knife crime is not traditionally an English thing , it was unknown , its imported from other cultures and countries |
By:
In a nutshell,if you bring something like this back ,which was very unpopular back in the day,it must be handled far better otherwise there will be blood!

Reynard What's wrong with Stop & Search ? I think the answer is rather obvious , don't you ? Nope. Well, it would appear that HGS is the only one who cannot see the obvious answer cos every other poster has referenced it ![]() |

By:
As long as it doesn't become harassment I don't see the issue. And why should it be black exclusive?? Not the only people who carry knives. Would like to see all walks randomly stop and searched.
By:
I agree , it doesn't have to be 'black exclusive' but it would almost inevitably be perceived as a racist policy by those who wish to take offence .
Logically the larger proportion of Stop & Searches would fit the demograph of perpetrators for it to be effective but that , by very definition , requires a judgement to be made based almost solely on ethnicity which in itself , by the same definition , is 'racism' . 'Victims' of the Stop & Search policy could then use this to sue the police and purchase more knives with the damages awarded . ![]() |
By:
the only problem with that is they wont be carrying a blade on their own "turf " blades are hidden in all sorts of places and picked up easily when needed . so a lot of the stop and searches will find nothing which will give fuel to the anti stop and search brigade . of course youths venturing into a rival postcode will be carrying blades for "protection " and vulnerable to stop and search .
By:
ah but they have to carry them to hide them
By:
The anti stop and search brigade don't want to highlight an issue they've helped create like Primary school kids with Mach 10s and the like as evidenced in the documentary from over 10 years ago I posted on the other S+S thread, the failings are huge as they knew how it was developing and did very little to stop it.

If all guns and blades didn't exist there are plenty of other weapons. Some of the worst cases of murder are caused by blunt instruments.
