Raoul Moat more or less saved Chit Chat back in 2010 when the Forum was being messed around with, left virtually moribund, and seemed destined to die.
His head-to-head with Susie Sim was covered in great and sometimes unnecessarily lubricious detail on here.
As I recall the manhunt was one of Kay's first big outside broadcast 'hard news' reporting gigs. There was even an anecdotal (but sadly unproven) rumour of spare pairs of undergarments being delivered on a half-hourly basis by the Sky HD Copter, in anticipation of the excitement of him being gunned down on camera. Personally I never believed it, as much as I wanted to.
The Great Woman would even refer to him as "Raoul", whereas Susie and local Plod referred to him more circumspectly as "Mr Moat" (which in the pleasing Northumbria accent came out as "Mister Mert",
Very pleased to see George and "Moaty" (as he was known on Chit Chat) brought together like brothers in this way, although devastating to learn that "Moaty" has finally succumbed to "nits" as we had all sadly feared.
Fingers crossed Kay will be able to cover this important news story. I would have luvved it, luvved it, if she had been able to grab a face-to-face interview with "Raoul". I'm sure it would have had all the dignity and gravitas of that all-girls-together "What did you two do behind the bike sheds?" classic interview with Rebecca Loos back in the day.
