OP -- According to her family she wouldn't go wandering off alone

Trouble is that if Nora did wander off alone, she'd get lost almost immediately. She has special needs, does not speak the language, the family is on holiday rather than at home, and it is more-or-less in the middle of a jungle.

"The search for London girl Nora Quoirin, 15, was beginning today, one week after she disappeared from a Malaysian jungle resort.

However police leading the search have expressed fears for her safety.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said: "So far, we have no credible leads on where she is but we will continue with the search. We are accepting information from all parties and our investigation is exploring all angles."

Mr Mohamad said there was no evidence to indicate that Nora had been abducted, the local Star publication reported".

"Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said this will allow the searchers to concentrate on a more focused area. Mr Mohamad said there was no evidence that Nora had been abducted but a separate criminal investigation is taking place alongside the search".

"Nora’s parents described how their daughter has limited verbal communication, meaning she cannot make or receive phone calls independently or write more than a few words at a time, and cannot grasp how to manage money. ‘She is not like other teenagers. She is not independent and does not go anywhere alone,’ they said in a statement released by the Lucie Blackman Trust. ‘Nora likes to walk with her family, but her balance is limited and she struggles with coordination. ‘She has been to Asia, and many European countries before, and has never wandered off or got lost.’

I always find it interesting when people judge other countries, cultures based on the standards they experience in their own countries.

Scaling back could mean anything. My guess is it means 'we are a developing country, our police is underfunded, we usually don't give a feck about disappearances and kidnappings, and we are certainly not going to waste our resources finding a foreigner'

I would also guess the ordinary police forces involved on the ground would have talked amongst themselves about how this girl is getting the special treatment because she's white and how the police would probably not even have registered a case if it was a local girl.

Just my guess. But I doubt the malaysians are going to waste a lot of time on this, unless there's some funding from the UK govt.

Detectives have searched the homes of staff working on the resort and have interviewed the taxi driver who picked up the family from Kuala Lumpur Airport on Sunday.

Investigators from Malaysia’s Bukit Aman – the country’s equivalent of the FBI – are investigating known paedophiles and other criminals in the resort.

On Friday elite commandos joined the jungle hunt for the schoolgirl as concerned cops have drafted in the VAT 69 special forces in their search and rescue effort.

It comes after cops said they believe Nora may still be alive after finding “her footprints” in the jungle.

Emergency teams say they are now focusing their search for the vulnerable youngster on isolated "hilly areas" as she could be hiding behind huge rocks.

Surprised no one has googled the mum and noticed she is co-owner of a tech company that has offices in London /NY/Singapore ,wondering if this is a factor ? The child’s French grand mother  statement saying French high level pressure has been applied and the search would now be on s diff level explains why the search is so big imo ,the childs grandfather is a Mayor in France ,also child is travelling on an Irish passport .Childs mum is an accomplished public speaker and would explain her doing the talking and father giving moral support at presser . The family had just arrived at the resort after an 18 hour flight into a -7 hr time zone . The sleeping arrangements and “cottage” layout are not clear but open window was in a hall rather than a bedroom ,wonder who booked and paid for this holiday and if mums buisiness was my used . Think if she wandered off they would have found her , drowned on resort and been covered up by who ever or been kidnapped  which Is not unheard of and site is only 40 km from KL ,if she has been kidnapped it won’t be a random event and could be a well planned job ,perhaps the police know this and are ever mindful of how potential negotiations need to go . Which could be compromised by such high media attention .

My observation was in general and not necessarily aimed at you.

My initial thinking was that the police were already doing too much for someone not so important. So when they said they were scaling back the search my first reaction was they've given up, but feeding the family an official story so they don't get into any trouble.

If bnb's posts are true though, then clearly there's a lot of money to be made looking for this girl.

Gardaí and British police support Nóra Quoirin searchOfficers from the UK's National Crime Agency, Scotland Yard and An Garda Síochána are supporting Malaysian authorities in the search for Nóra Quoirin.

"The 15-year-old vanished more than a week ago from a rainforest resort about 70km south of Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.

A spokeswoman for the NCA said: "The National Crime Agency, the Met Police and the Irish police are working together to help and support the Malaysian authorities relating to Nóra Quoirin's disappearance."

With hundreds of people, including an elite police force, out daily looking for any trace of Nóra, there is still no indication of what happened to her.

Malaysia's Malay Mail newspaper said a total of 348 personnel were deployed in the search operation, the largest team so far.

On Saturday, a garda liaison officer arrived in Malaysia to assist police with their investigation and to help the Department of Foreign Affairs as it provides consular assistance to Nóra’s family.

Police are still treating this as a missing persons case even though the family think she was abducted."

A postmortem of Nora Quoirin, the 15-year-old girl who went missing in the Malaysian jungle, has yet to determine a definitive cause of death and will continue on Thursday, say police.

The body of the teenager, from London, was discovered by a team of local hikers on Tuesday afternoon. She had been missing for 10 days.

Nora’s body was found unclothed down a steep, inaccessible ravine near a stream, just over a mile from the resort where she had been staying with her family, and was winched by helicopter to a hospital, according to an official.

Police said the area had already been searched by rescue teams days earlier.

Nora’s Irish and French mother and father, Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, identified her body on Tuesday night. The autopsy was carried out on Wednesday by a pathologist from Kuala Lumpur general hospital, a local hospital doctor and two experts from the department of chemistry.

Speaking outside the morgue at Tuanku Ja’afar hospital, the Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief, Che Zakaria Othman, said on Wednesday: “Today the postmortem started at 11:45am. The four-man team are still carrying out their work so the police cannot tell the criminal investigation division (CID) the results yet. There is nothing more we can say for the moment.”

It is understood the Malaysian attorney general, Tommy Thomas, has stepped in to oversee the case and has requested test samples from the postmortem.

Nora was born with holoprosencephaly, a neurological disorder, which limited her speech and coordination and made her “very vulnerable”, according to her parents. During the search, her family said she must have been abducted as she “never goes anywhere by herself”, but police have so far treated the case as a missing person, while not ruling out a “criminal element” in the teenager’s disappearance.

A Quoirin family lawyer has advised 'caution' around the results of the post-mortem into the death of 15-year-old Nora.

In results that were announced on Thursday morning, police found there was no evidence of foul play in the death of the Irish teenager.

The results found that she died from intestinal bleeding, most likely due to starvation and stress and that there were no signs of sexual assault.

Her body was discovered two days ago - 10 days after she went missing - close to a waterfall about 1.6 miles from the jungle resort of Dusun, where she had been on holiday with her French and Irish parents, sister Innes (12) and brother Maurice (9).

Speaking to the RTE radio programme Today with Miriam O'Callaghan, the French lawyer Charles Morell said the Quoirin family is satisfied with the work of the police.

However, he believes people should be "cautious" by the first interpretation of the postmortem results.

He said no avenue of what happened to Nora has been "excluded", including a criminal investigation.

He added that it is too early to determine what happened to Nora and that the family want to get more information from toxicology reports.

Mr Morell said the Quoirin family still "cannot understand" how Nora could leave the cottage they were staying in by herself.

Speaking to the Irish Times on Wednesday, the French grandfather of Nora Quoirin has said he believes "someone put" the teenager’s body in the place where she was found in Malaysia.

Sylvain Quoirin said he believes the circumstances surrounding Nora’s death are a criminal matter.

"She wasn’t there yet [during previous searches]. Someone put her there, to get rid of her," Mr Quoirin said.

"Can you imagine her walking 2.5km, naked and barefoot, over rocks, in the middle of the night?" Mr Quoirin asked. "For me, that’s absurd."
