Famously Liam Neeson got the star role because he's always making lists.

It is of course an iconic film but having seen it three times it's not a film I would ever care to see again personally.

Slippy i reckon me and you are of similar age and have many of the same habits and i was of same thoughts as you re this film in that i had "watched/seen it " 3/4 times already.......

howeva 1st time i went to pics in 93 i got easily bored cos it was so long and then a further 2 or 3 three times i "watched " it to catch up on all the fuss ......but didnt really cos i was still easily distracted.

Having just sat thru an uninterupted run wivout adverts on C5  i can honestly say its a must re-visit cos its one of the most evocative films you will ever see - how Spielberg eva came up with that is beyond me but how cant anyone be moved by this film - truly shocking at times but hard not to be moved by it many many times.

Hope to go to Krakow next year and visit the place cos a pals already been and said its a must on ya bucket list.

Simply an amazing film imo ShockedShockedSadSadCryCry

Fantastic and very moving film but I doubt I could watch it a second time let alone 3 times as did Slippy.

s2tr, I found the schindlers factory a bit underwhelming. But west of there back towards the centre there are still remnants of the ghetto left (like bits of wall blocking off street ends, they ghetto was the more central area and the factory was kind of out East a little from the south centre), and time I was there you could see which area it was in on a map. I found it a bit more "real". And obviously auschwitz is a short trip away, which is a different all game of "real" :(

We've had "biggest film moment" I think come up here as threads before, and for me, the "red girl" scene from this film is one for me, I'll never forget that bit of cinematic brilliance, I don't think it'll be bettered.

Acually now I say it .. the Schindler factory was interesting and worth a visit I suppose as it wasn't just on THAT area of ww2 which I expected it to be, it had a wider range of historical stuff from ww2, so worth a visit if you've time.

TBH off season is probably best time of year to go. Full summer it's a little like a theme park. You aren't AFAIK allowed to just wander around yourself so you are part of a group and you need to keep going as part of the group to keep the flow. (I was in a group, obviously). What is interesting is that until you see it you won't realise there are TWO camps. The one with the famous train line photos, train line under gatehouse etc, is the open wide one, the other one is cramped and more "in town" a bit away.

I used to wonder as a stupid idiotic boy why they didn't try harder to escape, but when faced in real life with TWO lines of high electrified barbed wire fencing with guard posts spaced on it .. you can see why.

was that true or just Spielberg imagination in film SadSadSad re the pot shots from the balcony - proper sick fcuk if true
Report lybertyne August 11, 2019 10:20 AM BST
I understand the shots from the balcony were made up for dramatic effect.  You can see the house today and apparently there's a large hill between the balcony and the camp.

" He shot people from the window of his office if they appeared to be moving too slowly or resting in the yard"

So partly true in the respect he took pot shots at people people, in fact the film if anything  underplayed how much of a monster he actually was.
