Dr C ,those links are well and good but come on ,cymag ffs that had been banned for years ,who in the right mind would use that for wasps and then handle the grubs .The real fisherman don’t use poisoned or tainted bait . The pest control guys get good money for an untainted wasp nest from the real fisherman . All they links describe is how pro pest controllers used to deal with wasps ,powder the nest entrance and they carry the poison into the nest and everything gets nuked with it . Some of these poisons are central nervous disrupters and also extremely poisonous to fish . No self respecting Trutta would go near tainted dead grub . It’s just a case of ignorance ,same as using washing up liquid to catch worms ,you will get some bait but catch SFA with it . They put the nest in a bin liner ,tie it tight and suffocate the wasps but the grubs are fine ,hence the top dollar of £30 quids a nest . Trust me that’s a fact m8 .Maybe canal fish are less fussy but the old BT,s won’t touch tainted dead bait . Docking grubs are good too and very tough ,tough skinned and can hold thar breath and wriggle all day in deep cold water .Maggots are liggtweight stuff and quickly stop moving in cold water ,you need to take emm out and let emm warm up ever now and again . Anyway another 8 wasps removed and the red admirals are actually painted ladies . Coming in pairs today ,apparently they have came across from Africa on the winds .

Back in the day the pro fisherman (matchfishers) kept thar secrets close to themselfs,no internet and ignorance ,everyone knew wasp grub was deadly but few knew how to use and obtain it correctly . Bye the way I am a fly only fisher now but like to see all the old methods used and the knowledge kept going .The purists frown on bait/spinner but it has its time and place.

Last year we fly epidemic where I live you could not open a door or window without an house full of flys, this year hardly any?
I live right on the edge of town so plenty of fields and woods ideal fly country. As for wasps they are starting to come in from the fields around this time of year, they say the best way of keeping them away is to hang a false wasp hive up in the garden wasps from other hives will not come near another wasp hive |
