I saw that video the other day , didn't realise gulls ate small animals. It seemed to eat it pretty easily too

Seagulls are vicious. They can kill an ice cream in one strike.

Well if you think about it they are sea birds, they wouldn't have a place to take a fish caught miles out at sea and eat it in installments, there will be a huge evolutionary advantage in being able to just whack big things (like fish .. or rabbits or pigeons) down in one gulp.

Kenny can of course hardly sit in judgement of seagulls given this sort of shocking behaviour!!!

But we humans are partly to blame, we have over fished our seas, Seagulls have been forced in land.

I imagine the Seagull would have killed it with strikes to the neck of the dog, before eating it.

There is a slight chance the dog may have fought him off I suppose, would be badly wounded, probably best it is all over

Animals may look cuddly but Nature is very cruel, Darwin's laws.

I don't think it's "forcing seagulls inland" that's not the way nature works. Certainly we are slaughtering seabird colonies by overfishing and stealing all the sandeels etc from  sandbanks their young feed on, but you don't see gannets or puffins or albatros inland. Seagulls are fairly aggressive smart omnivores and there is an ecological space for them to come inland anyway with lots of food around, nature fills spaces as it finds them. I was just watching one recently emptying a bin out like a boss, it probably prefers that to being out in the cold sea trying to catch fish.

I'm skeptical about this alledged ' gull carries off dog ' story.
Doesn't state type of Gull. Was it a Great Black Backed ( the biggest ) ? Or a Herring Gull. - a lot smaller.
A Herring Gull weighs 1 - 1.5 kg, the same weight or less than a Chihuahua. 1.5 - 3kg.
The gull is not a raptor ( it's webbed feet are hardly talons). So we're being asked to believe that a gull picked up this dog ( weighing at least the same , but possibly double its weight )with its beak and flew off with it ??

Last week the wrens that nest just outside the office window had a clutch of chicks . I was surprised to see Sparrows attacking nest , parents and chicks . It seems this is commonplace behaviour .

There are fears a Devon dog kidnapped by a seagull which swooped down and carried the miniature chihuahua away in its beak has died.

The dog's owner Becca Hill, 24, of Paignton, is hoping four-year-old Gizmo will be found alive.

But grim pictures showing an animal leg found on a Totnes rooftop have sparked fears it could belong to Gizmo.

Now The Sun on Sunday newspaper has published pictures of the rooftop littered with animal bones - including one photograph of a brown furry paw attached to a leg bone.

The newspaper says vets are investigating the grizzly discovery, and Gizmo's owners have been informed.

The picture was taken by Natalie Williams, from Paignton, who works in Totnes.

Natalie, 29, told The Sun that crowds of seagulls regularly congregate on the rooftop behind Totnes High Street.
