I was out of town riding a bus earlier when, as the bus pulled into one of the stops en-route, I saw a woman, of a certain age, waiting but she didn't get on, she obviously hadn't been waiting for my bus, or she'd seen me and thought better of it, whatever. The bus pulled away without her and for a moment I seriously considered jumping off the bus and approaching her, although I never set eyes on her nor she I before.
Never have I seen such a pretty face looking so glum, I so wanted to say something, ,ANYTHING. A smile from someone like her would be the highlight of my day. Let me say right now that I'm almost at retirement age and no no no, I wasn't leaching but it set me thinking.
It's all very well going up to a woman in the street and saying " hey you pretty woman, smile, it can't be THAT bad. " When yes, it really could be, that bad but just supposing.
We read stories in the paper about "those women" claiming to feel as though they're invisible but , again, just supposing, I'd gone up to that woman and told her that I had, indeed,never seen such a pretty woman looking so glum and that her smile might well make my day, apart from the possibility that she that might have some god awful terminal illness, I would have been risking a mouthful of broken china handed out by a possessive spouse.
So what's a bloke to do?
So many missed chances, and it's so sad.
Life eh?

one has to be very careful these days; sad but true. I used to love giving ladies a smile in shops - bars, wherever. She could have screamed her face off, & you would have wasted a but ticket. Then again, we are all gamblers on here
You should have alighted in a state of undress and taken advantage of her low self-esteem.
I saw a documentary once called on the buses. All the women in it were up for it.
Eric, if she is not half your age then grab those nuts and live a little.
Be polite, a little humorous,a little complimentary,and gauge the response.

i'd say get over your preoccupation with women (pretty or otherwise) she probably wanted to be left alone ...not everyone is attention seeking in their nature .

My advice is follow that route every day. She's bound to be there more often than not at that time.
First a smile, next day a wave, then the universal "fancy a drink" hand motion on day three.
If she's still there on day 4, I'd get off and introduce, and ask her what her problem is.

I caught a bus on a Saturday morning, could have been any bus, going anywhere. They don't all have the same routes. Mine went the way that it did. People got off, and on, as they do. I saw them and I saw her. It's all so very random.
I'd never seen her again and might not see her again, as with every other face in this never ending procession of bus-stops, would I even recognise her if I saw her again? Would it matter? Do I care?
Jeez guys, it was a standout, that's all.

Also,
there's another goon that frequents this small bus-terminal, if I might call it that, he was there today but I stood some way off. I don't get too close to these people, I know they can't help it but jeez, who needs it? If you get within a few yards of him he'll ask you which bus you're waiting for and if you respond you'll get a full rundown of when it should turn up, if it's likely to be late, he probably knows the bus-driver, and his dog.
Makes me think of that old Beatle lyric, " all the lonely people...." I don't know where come from but it seems as though they're all going to a bus-stop, MY bus-stop.
