You actually believe that cover story? I don't think the EU orders soon-not-to-be members (or any other member) to use their military to hijack any ships. As far as I know, any EU sanctions are about EU countries or companies exporting oil to Syria anyway. Not about hijacking ships from random other countries that try to get oil to Iran.

It just so happened that coincidentally the US's lapdog, and not any of the other EU countries, intervened? Coincidentally as tensions between the US and Iran were rising (and I think the EU oil embargo sanctions towards Syria have been there since 2011).

Also

Carl Bildt, the former Swedish prime minister and co-chair of the European council on foreign relations, pinpointed the ambiguities of the British action in Gibraltar: “The legality of the UK seizure of a tanker heading for Syria with oil from Iran intrigues me. One refers to EU sanctions against Syria, but Iran is not a member of the EU. And the EU as a principle doesn’t impose its sanctions on others. That’s what the US does.”

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/20/gulf-crisis-tanker-retaliation-iran-hormuz

Josep Borrell also dismissed the UK's very, very transparent cover story and attempt to mislead the public about the true reasons.

*Not about hijacking ships from random other countries that try to get oil to Syria, and that random country coincidentally happened to be Iran

It's pretty darn obvious this stunt happened because of the special relationship of lapdog and master between the UK and US.

and then lol, trump says "look after your own ships".   The right wing have found more ways to humiliate Britain than was ever thought possible.

And how is that a problem for the UK ?
It’s not our boat , it’s not our oil , and it has a foreign crew ,
Let Sweden or the eu sort it out we don’t care

Now I suggest the Swedish pm stops whining  at Britain and the US and starts whining at Iran
For stealing it’s oil and imprisioning it’s crew
See how that goes

Trump is only there to absolutely destroy the wests stranglehold of power

The fat git has done nothing but threaten without actually doing one thing?

Trump of course is right when he says look after your own ships
If Sweden or the eu wants his help that they ought to be nicer , good

I don’t care as long as it was illegal it should have been stopped

Of course I don’t want Britain stopping or protecting any ship ...unless it is a British ship with British oil with British crew
The rest of the countries , such as Sweden and the eu will have to look after themselves

lfc, do you understand that Carl Bildt simply pointed out how transparently your government is lying to you about the true reasons of their seizure of the Iranian ship?

He is not asking Britain to protect Swedish ships.

^ yeah, that was fun (though wasn't it Pompeo?). First the US proxy that is the UK seizes a ship at the request of the US, then when Iran retaliates tit-for-tat, the US government is all "Dudes, can't you even look after your own ships"

UK will always go to war on America's orders. There is no doubt about that. The thing the americans are p1ssed at is how the british people spoiled the relationship with EU, which almost always supplied troops for these wars as well. Maybe this is just a plan to show the people how important EU is and therefore how bad brexit will be, once UK is left on its own and america starts playing tough. You only have to look at the govt's fooling of the public on brexit to see it wasn't a desired result.

But at the end of the day, all that is needed is a bunch of troops willing to fight a war without asking questions. I don't think UK has any shortage of people like that(lfc would be a perfect candidate though he might be overage, but there are many like him). This war with Iran though, I don't see it happening.

This is very true. If you are supplying sheep to participate in war, in unlimited quantity and without asking any questions, you deserve a special relationship. Unfortunately we don't have that because our leaders, also morons like yours, asked questions before supplying sheep, and outright refused on some occasions.

'Special relationship' is just a nicer way of saying 'the biggest lapdog'

Exactly so detraveller , now remember that and the eu can send it’s own warships to the straits
Don’t expect the U.K. or America to help thanks

Now if the EU want it back they can ask Iran , good luck we’re not interested

The crew of a British-flagged tanker that was seized in the Gulf are "safe", the vessel's owner has said after speaking to them for the first time.

The British-flagged Stena Impero and its 23 crew were taken by Iran's Revolutionary Guard on Friday.

The owner, Stena Bulk, made contact on Tuesday with the ship's master who said they were safe and there was good co-operation with the Iranians on board.

The vessel seizure came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the UK.

Iran said it had detained the Stena Impero on 19 July because it collided with a fishing boat, but Stena Bulk has said it has received no evidence of a collision.

All good so far!

Why don't we tell the IRG to get in contact with the owners of this ship?

Because we don't give a fcek!

Heard the Iranian Tanker might be released shortly.

Questions need to be asked as to why and under what authority we stopped their tanker?

We are not The Pirates of the High Seas anymore!
