Since they put the price of drink up the jakies have become junkies.
By:
Yeah, make it all legal and turn the country into a land of nonfunctional zombies.

By:
Like Scotland ?

You haven't watched the vid.

Portugal is only slightly bigger than London in terms of population. The ethnicity makeup is also different. What worked there won't necessarily work in the UK.
With the steps Portugal has taken, you have to assume that people will indeed seek help. If you start referring to a junkie as 'person with drug issues' and expect people will be encouraged to seek help for their drug issues, then you are mistaken. I don't think many of Portugal's policies would work in London for instance. |
By:
No, but I`ll watch it now.
By:
Lets say I am part of a gang in london, with no interest in developing a career, and i do drugs and sell them as well. Once you decriminalize drugs, why would I seek help when I know drugs are my bread n butter and selling them just became easier? The only way you can make me stop is by taking away my customers. But what if my customers are also like me and have no interest in improving their lives?

C4 News, I saw it earlier. Drug addiction is a terrible fate and of course people should be helped.
228 addicts per 1,000,000 people is not a nation of zombies leopard. |
By:
sorry, 228 deaths per million.
By:
Addiction of any kind is a terrible illness.

By:
Legalising class A drugs is not the answer imo.

"Solved the Problem" - by pretending it doesn't exist?
Meanwhile in France a muslim who killed a jewish woman after beating her for hours reciting lines from a certain book may not be held responsible for it as he had been smoking weed: https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/17/muslim-killed-jew-not-criminally-responsible-weed-10377709/ MARVELOUS stuff, what a fantastic justice system. Well if you want to kill someone in France, they seem to be preparing a get out of bastille free card. |
By:
Another country 5hit scared of upsetting the muslims, why is this ?
By:
Portugal hasn't solved anything, they've simply reduced the number of deaths from taking drugs by legalising it and thus making it much easier for addicts to get treatment, and access to other loads of other benefits I expect.
They're basing their success on the number of lives saved - but at what cost to the rest of them? I take the Donald Trump stance here. If you want to live in a country where drug taking is legal, then go and live in one! |

Sounds like a summer research trip to Portugal for the authorities

It was a masterclass in buck passing and blame gaming by the SNP yesterday, they are responsible for the Scottish Health service, policing, most laws apart from some reserved ones, implementation of said laws, education, health education, social work etc etc the list goes on but when drugs deaths are up they focus in on the **ONE thing** they can find to try and use to blame this on the UK: The fact they can't open shooting dens in Glasgow that might apparently help a % of some users in one area. Very predictable SNP Slopey Shoulder/Not Our Fault/Desperately Find Something To Pick A Fight With and Blame Westminster stuff.

The criminality is. So apparently the SNP want the heroin users to be able to shoot up in complete safety having sourced their very expensive heroin via what can fairly surely be all sorts of illegal activity in the vicinity. It's not like they are going to be business analysts come round the corner on their lunch break. Unless of course the SNP want smack legalised. Probably go down well with their supporters ..
By:
What don't you understand? Drugs policy is the responsibility of Westminster.
By:
Good one crippen, lets instead continue with the very successful war on drugs.
It's not a war on drugs though is it? It's a go soft and treat them like victims attitude we have, instead of hitting them really hard like they do in certain countries abroad where drugs are a minor problem. Druggies even get classed as disabled here and get extra benefits. |
By:
I can only assume given your blinkered and comical party line towing here, you are probably an SNP supporter?
By:
Crippen believes in a more "president of the phillipines" approach to drugs policy? :)
By:
That's right JC - now you're talking.
By:

By:
I wonder if the SNP have thought through any likely repercussions on Scotland and Glasgow if drugs policy were devolved and heroin etc were made legal / given out / safe to take as much as you want there under medical supervsion, and not so in the rest of the UK, with respect to "free movement of druggies", as the EU might say.

Even Gove sniffed at decriminalisation during his tenure as justice sec.

It will always be do as we say, not as we do.

Imagine all those nurses, doctors, police, enforcement agencies, weapons buyers and makers, all suddenly becoming unemployed, redundant.
The war on drugs is fake......... The system is corrupt....... SMASH THE MIDDLE, SMASH IT UP.............. |

Forum would be like a ghosttown if that happened

He will be hoping they kill off the mentally ill next
What an evil thing to write aaronh. Corbyn's certainly got his hands full with you lot as supporters. |
By:
The Westminster drug policy obviously applies to all; parts of the UK so why is Scotlands problem 3 times that of Englands?
Legalising it or introducing safe dens is just a nonsense. Stiffer sentences for dealers and strip them of their gains. |
By:
I think we should legalise the softer drugs such as marijuana, cannabis, weed, etc
But not the hard drugs such as heroin or cocaine just my own opinion |
By:
I agree with you BLUE/GREY, I would legalise weed and solids as well.

You have worked out my cunning code Slippy

If there is no market there is no drug dealer, and a lot less crime. BUT THE WAR ON DRUGS IS FAKE AND THE SYSTEM CORRUPT................. SMASH THE MIDDLE |

How would a "fix room" or legalising it help with ecstasy and "solve the problem"? A quick look at google news there are stories in the last month covering (teenage) deaths from that in Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Glasgow, Bournemouth, Stratford, Hamilton, Preston... and that's just a quick search.
The thing about E is it has a reputation for being "safe" when it obviously isn't. Sad to think the first deaths to it were huge news, now they barely get a little coverage, surely more coverage would be a good thing for the UK. Instead of covering BJ waving a kipper or Trumps latest Tweet offeding some SJWs. |
By:
Legalise weed maybe, but not to be smoked in public buildings. Fekking stinks.

stop giving them free methadone, neddles, etc,, let them kill themselves , no one asked them to be junkies,, giving free needles etc ,only makes the problem worse,,
