It seemed to me that the opposition had too much say in the commentary.  I have not known a final where the opposition talk so much on the game.  I didn't know the commentators  of course so when they cheered I thought ENGLAND had played well, not new zealand - it was confusing. I don't know what other people perhaps watching for the first time made of it.

The commentary feed is the same for all the countries around the world who are showing it so they have commentators representing each country.

SO ENGLAND only had to tie because they scored more boundaries in normal play,

is that correct

Yes,if the super over was a tie, most boundaries decides it.

Thanks, anubis, for that but I think it is wrong.  It is surely possible in this day and age to just have separate commentators for each team.  I admit I was playing poker and watching at the same time so it added to the confusion.  But I wanted to know about our team, not theirs.

cheers
why don't they use that method to decide it without super over, which is really an agricultural slog

It used to be fewest wickets conceded. I think India invented the super over for their T20 cricket.

NZ would have been swept aside without Colin de Grandhomme's bowling. That's the Colin de Grandhomme who was born and grew up on Zimbabwe and who represented Zimbabwe in the under-19 World Cup. His father was also a Zimbabwe international.

Jofra Archer, by contrast, has a British father and a British passport, and had a choice of which team to play for. When the W Indies failed to select him for the under-19 World Cup, he was basically forced to qualify for England instead. What else was the poor sod supposed to do?

Morgan has an English mother and a British passport. He chose England because Ireland didn't have Test status. So he made the decision to leave, challenge himself in top-class cricket and give himself a chance of playing in international competition. Kudos to him for taking the hard route and sticking with his decision.

Archer has an English father and a British passport, and the West Indies didn't want him anyway.

Ben Stokes moved to England when he was 12. Why should some other country get the benefit of all the resources this country poured in to make him the cricketer he is? What sort of connection do you think the man himself feels with New Zealand?

Jason Roy moved to England when he was 10. Why should some other country get the benefit of all the resources this country poured in to make him the cricketer he is? What sort of connection do you think the man himself feels with South Africa?

And happily this is a country where you can follow any religion you want.

You have little idea of what it means to be English.

Well this thread worked! I wished them luck and boy did they get it! Well done England, the second best team on the day of the final but the best team overall in the competition.

The really hard part of their job would have started from about 9pm last night.....keeping Stoksie out of the cells.
