Top Ten actors in films that nobody knows their name

Bigmo. Played a great part In life,..never new the guy

I absolutely love that Liverpudian actor Stephen Graham, he was in 'Made In England and recently 'The Virtues' he is from the top draw most definitely.

Pierre Blaise .

this could be a long topic, dunlaying

known to fans of Japanese cinema, but not as well known as he should be is the magnificent
Toshiro Mifune

Magnificent and sexy as hell, Baphornet

I think I first saw him in an american film, but sad to say I always wanted to see more of him but in those days trying to see japanese films was difficult.  Thanks for reminding me of him, can you tell me the easiest way to see his best japanese films?

He is another example of a how a man can be short, fat, not good looking but still be sexy - men don't know how lucky they are!

Stephen Graham a great shout. I never knew his name but played some great parts as mentioned earlier. Brilliant as Al Capone in The Boardwalk Empire.

Sam Kydd. Must have appeared in hundreds of British films made 40s to 70s.

hi annie; BFI Player has all the Japanese goodies, including most of Kurosawas films. There is also a wide variety of other classics from different countries. It's a fiver a month but if you like your classic films, it is well worth it
there is usually a free trial period anyway, & you can cancel when you want

Yes Bap, A lot of classics there to view and tbh a lot of dross too, but a fiver well spent indeed. Terrific value.

just to add, annie - Mifune: The Last Samurai is a doc about the man on Netflix, if iyou've got it. It's brilliant

john Cazale made five films before he died .

The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather 2
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

not a bad cv

Thank you sooooo much Baphornet

I have just looked at the site, which I didn't know existed, and there are lots of his films.  I see one is in english, are all the others in english or subtitles?

I have also seen others that I would like to see, so I must think again about getting a tv!

I have just finished reading the Godfather again, so i was interested in your post about john cazale, eyeball.  I looked him up and he was fredo in the godfather, he played it well.  Sad he died at 42 of lung cancer through smoking all his life.  Chit chatters beware!

I love film threads, Thanks bingo for putting one up .

I very rarely watch recent film's ,I hate modern hollywood , they make films like McDonald's makes food .I've hardly watched a Hollywood or British recently made
films for well over 10 years .  I can't make a fair comment about steven Graham
because I've only seen him in one film , I think it was called New England or
something similar .

I would just like to say that I think actors from my city of Liverpool
leave very much a lot to be desired .At sport and music they excel , but they play the acting game very poorly . I don't think very highly of them
apart from maybe Paul McGann , who has been fine
in everything I've seen him in .But that's just my view , I think
that view is entitled to be considered because I trained as an actor
myself when I was 21 .Not only that but I was awarded an acting prize at the end of the
course by the motley crew of acting teachers who taught us.I learnt how to act but at the start of the course I was worse than useless and literally terrified of the exposureall that acting involved but I conquered my fears and I then did find an imagination that I never knew I had. Anyway , that's enough about little ole me .

Anybody heard of David Morrissey ? I remember him turning up on one occasion ,on the acting course I attended to talk about the importance of
breathing correctly on stage and in film .I quite like him as a person , I've met
him a few times , but as an actor what I've seen of him , I don't rate , apart from possibly the first thing I saw him in , a tv production called One summer.

I asked him how much he was paid for appearing in that and he told me he was paid 6 grand.
What did you do with that money I asked , I went to Kenya , he replied .

Anyway , that's just my general opinion about actors from Liverpool .

I like an American actor named Stering Hayden , early on in his career in the 40'
he was a ham but he later turned in some very memorable performances in films like
Asphalt jungle , The killing ,Dr Strangelove , and the Godfather. His best
performance in my view was in the excellent Robert Altman film ' The Long Goodbye .

Not many people have heard of him .

person

It is such a coincidence that the book I have just been reading again, the godfather, seems to be involved in a lot of these threads tonight.

I remember sterling hayden as the police chief in the godfather, culvin.  He was a good actor but he lacked charisma.

Arthur Askey was a great actor from Liverpool. A legend. The Ghost Train was a classic comedy of his. The book on which the film was based was written by Arnold Ridley, Godfrey in Dad's Army. He wasn't from Liverpool. Not a lot of people know that!

It's all about opinions , lovely Annie .I myself think he was a very powerful and
charismatic actor , certainly in the few films I mentioned , and most certainly
in The Long Goodbye . He was also good in a film I forgot about called Johnny Guitar .

That really is a blast from the past, mightymac.  I remember him, vaguely.

Bigmo. Duck and Dive , number 25 .

I didn't mean to call you Bingo , ha ha .
It's the prescriptive text , or whatever
it's called , that I have on the tablet
I'm using .

Hey , mightyman, Please tell me you're jokin. Arthur As key , Great actor , Ha ha .

I loved The Ghost train film as a kid , . It was scary and funny.
I watched it on utube about a year ago and I thought it was appalling . Arthur As key
in that film was so incredibly annoying. I wanted the Ghost train
to run him over .

Time to sleep .
Goodnight Annie and
Goodnight mightymac

Goodnight, Culvin

Goodnight Culvin and Annie.

Goodnight, mightymac

Goodnight , John Boy , ha , ha .

Lovely to have a little chat with The Lovely annie .

Thinking about annie , gets me unfortunately thinking about someone else , and I just want to say some words
about that man . Actually I don't think he was a man , I think he was a slug pretending to be a man . So I'll say this to
That Slug.

I hope you've changed you dirty little sluggy b1tch , because that's what you were to me and lovely annie.

I've had a few little argie bargies with other fellow chitchatters but that thing was something else .

I'll never forgive it's so called humorous bullying of annie or the constant slimy comments it constantly made against myself .
So listen to this you bl00dy aRse Rag , you'll never come back here , so go and slime back into the dark bowel's of the earth you miserable c u . t !

I do hope my old pal crags has changed , if so if I'm ever in Devon ,I'll look it up and we'll
have a little drinkee together . I'll have a vodka and I'll p1ss a nice stream of water on the floor for the slug .

After our drink , if I think it hasn't changed , I'll kill it . [MODERATOR ,THAT'S JUST A JOKE ,I LOVE SLUGS , HONEST]

Goodnight , Goodmorning and Goodbye , you slaggy slug . . .

Crags , I'm only messin , I love you really .

^ Loved ^

That brings back sad memories, Culvin

To be clear, I admit that I asked the moderators to 'have a word' with crags so many times and they did nothing.  Old timers on here will know that I couldn't post anything without him replying that I was a man and a liar.  I asked him time and time again not to say that and threatened him several times that I would complain if he continued but he ignored me. I asked them not to ban him but please stop him harassing me.

It is so nice to be able to post now without him, but I did not want him banned permanently.  If the moderators would allow him back I would have no objections, as long as he did not harass me again.

Although I have my suspicions that he is still here under a different name

I actually wouldn't mind him being allowed back either , annie.
The reason I say that is because I found it quite funny to take
the p1ss out of him . I couldn't stop myself .

You have a good sleep ? . I didn't go to sleep til 6.30.
Got to go out  at 9 . A friend is takin me to see her horse.

A horse named , annie , .ha ha

Take care , Lovely .

It's the old western actors that no one remembers their names but you'll certainly know their faces. George Gabby Hayes, Strother Martin, Woody Strode, Paul Fix,Victor Mclaglen, Ward Bond who played the police officer in "Its a Wonderful life" and Major O'Rourke in Fort Apache to name just two, the wonderful Jack Elam he of the dodgy eye and fixed stare, Eli Wallach the one nobody can remember when trying to name the Magnificent Seven,Katy Jurado played Helen Ramirez in High Noon, in all the western series like The Virginian and Rifleman. There's just a few, look them up you'll know all of them.

John Cazale was a great shout, what a credit list!

Culvin: Sterling Hayden was 'famous' for his absolute hatred of acting & everything associated with it. He would much rather have been sailing along in a boat & used what he earned, to do just that. His face or expression never changed in every film i i saw him in. He was more wooden than a baseball bat

Eli Wallach? Do you mean Brad Dexter? Wallach was the baddy

Wallach died not long ago at a ripe old age; was more famous for being "The Ugly" in that other great western. He was a well renowned stage actor & excellent wit

i've just had a right good giggle to myself thinking of Sterling Haydens portrayal of Jim Bowie in "The Last Command" If you ever get to watch this film, do take not of the Hayden expression when 1. He has a knife fight with Ernest Borgnine (there's a name for you) & then has a 'love' scene with a gorgeous 19 yr old Italian actress called Anna Maria Spaghetti (joking) exactly the same facial expression

'The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly'. Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and the other fella. Such a brilliant film that is.

The Alamo has got me thinking of John Waynes 'love child' It took him most of his career to get this film made, but when he did, the rascal had the pleasure of casting a Miss Linda Cristal in one of better roles. Now there was a stunner; who had half of Hollywoods leading men chasing her, the half were gay of course. You mayremember her a few years later when she had a role in one of TVs most loved western series as "Miss Victoria" in The High Chapparal. She was not that well known outside her country of brith but everyone who ever met her; never forgot the moment

Stephen graham was also in Snatch and little boy blue

he's just had a starring role in some utter crap on TV that all & sundry is raving about called "Killing Eve"

Culvin: Morrissey (no not him) is making a very lucrative living doing gazillions of adverts now. The next time you hear a scouse accent in an advert it is more than likely him

He's prolific, hardly ever off tv - he must be one of the best known actors in the uk

^Stephen Graham

jeez what am i talking about; not "KIlling Eve", but "Line of Duty" i hate both of them so sorry about the error

btw, all my knowledge of films etc i gathered from The Daily Express & The Daily Mail (just for my troll)

Don Stroud, over 100 films.

he was never better than when getting his nose broke by Joe Kidd

1 That actor who plays the coach driver in Carry On Camping
2 That actress who plays Bernard Breslaw's bird in Carry On Camping
3 That actress who plays Bernard Breslaw's bird's nagging mother in Carry On Camping
4 That bloke who looks a bit like ex-Newcastle Utd and Superstars legend Malcolm Macdonald who has the underage gay affair in If...
5 Just to be clear: I am not implying that Malcolm Macdonald is involved in underage gay sex
6 Or any sort of underage sex
7 Or any sort of gay sex either, come to that
8 That bloke who minds Malcolm McDowell's tea in If... - the one who looks like that bloke I was at school with whose name I can never remember
9 That actor who plays Regan's boss in The Sweeney
10 Can't remember the other one
11 Oh! I'm thinking of that bloke who always used to play posh English characters - tall and thin, fair hair - plays an insurance broker who Daley tries to sell information to in an episode of Minder

Started this thread as I've been watching an awful lot of films on talking pictures. The amount of recognisable faces is truly staggering. Then I realised I still don't know any of their names.

I know what you mean, bigmo.

Frustrating that nobody else but donny osmond does.

screaming , was the chap in Minder Jeremy Lloyd?

Just googled him ... Nope.

Right sort of name, though. He LOOKED like a Jeremy Lloyd.

Eyes were a bit too close together, in that English aristocratic way.

Found him!

It's Jeremy Child! And the episode was High Drains Pilferer - the one where Micky The Fish's mistress gets her tom nicked.

That's the chap I was thinking of screaming . He turned up all over the place .

He did, didn't he? A sort of aristocratic Sam Kydd.

David Lodge

Top Ten actors in films that nobody knows their name

David Lodge

There was a chap who turned up in films and tv shows . Comedy or serious he always looked the same and never said a word . A Super Extra !
Short , grey hair and moustache , usually bowler hatted and often carrying an umbrella .
He always seemed to be in a queue , that is when he wasn't being stabbed or shot . 1970s and 80s .

James Donald a shocking omission

Just picked a film at random The Pickwick Papers. I know the faces but not the names

James Hayter
Nigel Patrick
Noel Purcell

Probably showing my ignorance here.

Noel Purcell the go to Irish giant

Harry Fowler was in Pickwick Papers as was the actor who , in The Great Escape , nearly choked on the Moonshine served up by The Scrounger and The Cooler King .

Carry On legend Peter Butterworth ("A pound") was a real-life prisoner in Stalag Luft III at the time of the Great Escape. So too were the future Carry On scriptwriter Talbot Rothwell, along with Rupert "Maigret" Davies and Stratford Johns.
