I put a thread up about this a couple of months ago, I didn't shave for 3 or 4 weeks and I was amazed it got so bushy so quickly and it was grey and white whiskers(I'm 52) and although some people liked it I didn't as it made me look aged so I got rid of it. An experiment never to be repeated.

As something of an expert on this (like all things ) the secret is to not just let it grow out recklessly. Here is my take on it:
Think of your face being more "2019 bikini ready" than "70s edition of the joy of sex". So even at this stage, shave up your neck and down your cheeks right up to the line on the jaw where you want the beard to be, and make it a defined line where you want the final beard to be.
Then it looks neat and tended to and not scruffy, and importantly deliberate. If you leave it to grow down your neck in a rough "tramp dragged through a hedge look", it looks much worse. Though you might gain an entourage of young militant students.

Until a few years ago I always shaved clean about once a year to check if my face had become somewhat presentable in the meantime. Then that last time a few years ago, I think it was 2016, I looked in the mirror after being done, shuffled my slightly feet in shock at the sight, slipped on all the blood that was on the floor and crashed into the mirror head first.
Needless to say I have not felt the need to check what my clean-shaven face looks like since. I'm past the age where you can expect miracles anyway.

That's a fair point J.C. My beard goes down my neck and high up on my face and it's heavy growing and it just got totally out of control very quickly and I didn't like it much but others did say if I managed it properly it would look OK. I might give it another go later in the year.

I attended a wedding with 6 weeks growth and my aunt was gobsmacked at how long it was, I can remember posting on here about growing one
I didn't mind it but I felt a bit weird because it was the first time I'd let it grow more than 3 days +

Unfortunately, as I am no longer a thing of great beauty, but ravaged by very many years of aggro, and the demon booze, the unkempt scruffiness of three days of grey fluff, is never going to look anything but tatty, hence why I took it off again.
Back in the day it was all about moustaches, and I sported one for very many years.
For whatever reason, I shaved it off, and my little girl was in tears.
My dear mother, who was very vocal in not liking it, had to be prompted that it was no more!
I immediately started to regrow it, and so it stayed for a long time.
Actually I might just try again with just the 'tache......
Thanks for your support and advice Coach....Unfortunately, as I am no longer a thing of great beauty, but ravaged by very many years of aggro, and the demon booze, the unkempt scruffiness of three days of grey fluff, is never going to look anything bu
I can see the point of a beard if you tend to get peckish mid-morning, and you like the idea of still having bits of your breakfast stuck to your face.
Other than that, far too often the sign of a wrong 'un.

I loathe beards and moustaches and I have never had a boyfriend who had one - although I don't mind the stubble look but it is tricky as sometimes it can make you look scruffy.
