Steve McQueen was so "freakin cool", I think for a lot of people the two most memorable things about the Great Escape are him with the ball in the cooler, and the motorbike scene. I wonder what great films he never made :(

Actor in that was murdered. Also, not enough people wear monacles these days. Mogg should start wearing one, it could only enhance his "man of the people" image.

A Danish film called 'Brothers' from around 15 years or so ago. Concerns a Danish soldier taken prisoner of war in Afghanistan.
And of course we cannot forget "Very Important Person" with James Robertson Justice, Stanley Baxter, Leslie Phillips and the rest of the gang.

when i played golf, in my youth, i met a guy at our club who hap been a prisoner of war, of the japanese
his name was john wilkinson, he was always ready to encourage us with our golf, and loved talking about sport. sometimes he would talk about his times in prisoner of war camps, and his tales were of legend to us.
the most amazing thing was that it was all true, and many books mention him.
today, when we look at the vets remembering their friends from d day, i got to thinking about john wiilkinson.
theres a tale of a vet in the link below, and it tells briefly of john in the camp at page 25 well worth a read if you have the time.
the guy this is about, ends up married to johns sister...
