Joshua defended the physique of Ruiz Jr. in the build up to the fight, claiming that body shape is irrelevant, it's what's inside the body that matters.
Well, he just proved his own theory, losing his world titles to a man who wanted it more than Joshua.

Suspicious result but fair play to Ruiz - just pummelled AJ to defeat - not something we see in heavyweight boxing much these days. And hope for flabby types everywhere Laugh

Overrated ffs

He was in the same league as Muhammad Ali according to the BBC a couple of years ago CrazyCrazyCrazyCrazy

That heavyweight division is bloody awful lets be honest, Wilder is now probably the best of bad bunch, fury can beat him on his night

If we're being honest the BBC have been talking Joshua down recently, he's simply not been getting the clicks has he, so its time to move on to sell the next big overrated athlete/sportsman
Report SontaranStratagem June 2, 2019 11:32 AM BST
And lets think about this

Joshua and Hearn have made 100m each out of this run CrazyCrazyCrazy

Let that sink in

There's no way Hearn can demand a 70-30 split now Vs Wilder, Wilder now holds all the cards
Report macarony June 2, 2019 12:04 PM BST
If he gets in with Wilder and fights like he did lastnight lackluster and flat footed he could get seriously hurt, he needs to prove he is serious and show it in a few comeback fights
Report Angoose June 2, 2019 12:07 PM BST
The genie has well and truly been let out of Joshua's bottle and he'll require to take care of business in a rematch with Ruiz before any talk of a fight with Wilder can recommence.

Expect a few twists and turns along the way, and don't hold your breath waiting for Joshua v Wilder.

The best part of this whole fiasco with the heavyweights not fighting each other is seeing Hearn being properly outmanoeuvred by the Americans. Clearly overvalued Joshua's worth in the early Wilder negotiations asking for silly amounts as usual.

He's been taking the pi$$ the last few years with some of these bill they charge £20 for people to watch it really does put me off watching Boxing. the cards are usually awful. I do feel a little sorry for Joshua as he does seem a genuine guy.

What would he be looking at getting now? Wilders a massive name in America now he wasn't that big before the Ortiz/Fury fights. He was holding all the aces in the negotiations even before last night..

Poor Eddie.

Ruiz only had one defeat going into the fight against Joshua

Against Parker who Joshua had beaten.

But very much a different type of fighter to Parker, I assume Parker out boxed Ruiz, but could not do that

to Joshua who dominated the fight behind a strong left hand from centre of ring.

Ruiz did not bother with too much boxing against Joshua he just banged away, all too much for Joshua.

Even though Joshua was British I like to see an occasional upset, keeps boxing interesting.

I doubt those that backed Joshua at 1:04 enjoyed the experience as much.

You was right ibrahima...just watched the fight on utube

He had very good hand speed Ruiz.

He was clearly the smaller man but when he got close to Joshua he was out speeding him with his punches

and clearly they were not just speed.

He was like a little jack in the box, I don't think Joshua knew how to deal with him.

Well done Ruiz

Report Emitdeb June 3, 2019 3:08 PM BST
Aj was concussed when put down in the 3rd. from that he never properly recovered.

He was put down because he was careless in going for the early finish.. Anybody want to price the rematch up?? This really is gonna be a No contest.

1.2 would be a huge price for AJ.. imo.
Report SontaranStratagem June 3, 2019 3:13 PM BST
AJ got careless?

Even if that was true that just shows he's easily got at upstairs, for weeks he's been hearing how he isn't as explosive as Wilder, so what does he do? goes full blooded against an opponent who isn't there to go full blooded on, he's still in the game and its to dangerous at that point to go in for the kill ffs

Wilder and Fury would have him beat before the bell in my opinion, they'd get in his head and then just dismantle the stiff in the ring
Report SontaranStratagem June 3, 2019 3:15 PM BST
The fact is AJs peaked, there's no improvements coming and what you've seen in the past 4 fights is the finished article

Strange that the game-plan wasn't, take it the full distance.

Ruiz's physique would have meant he would have been gasping and shattered from Rnd 8 onwards.
Play totally safe for first 6 rounds and pick him off in the latter rounds
Report mymumsfinethankyou June 3, 2019 4:17 PM BST
there many guys out there ,,that will hit him harder than this guy did,,he new he would have got hammered fighting wilder or fury,,  went for what he thought was the easy route and it backfired,
Report SontaranStratagem June 3, 2019 5:04 PM BST
His whole style has been found out now though, emitdeb

And he hasn't got the skill, application and patience to keep it tight and pick them off late on, he's slow and ponderous in the ring, any quick fighter will eat him alive if he tried that. His defensive skills are awful lately, they weren't really needed earlier in his career because he was knocking out bums in 6 to 10 round fights, but his past 3 fights have shown his weaknesses big time. Ruiz said before the fight he doesn't like going backwards, if a fighter like Ruiz can expose his weakness like that then think what wilder and fury could do?

Sadly his muscle frame that got him to the top (albeit some bums to pad his record) will now be his downfall
Report SontaranStratagem June 3, 2019 5:06 PM BST

Fury the best at not getting hit in this era still got hit big V Wilder, he got up but god knows how

Wilder will be able to pick his time against Joshua judging his past few fights, Wilder was mostly hitting air Vs Fury because of Fury's speed and in ring craft, but Joshua has zero of that Plain

I've seen older people with better footwork than Joshua, he's always planted and begging to be countered

Andy Ruiz Jr has put forward Mexico as his desired location for a rematch with Anthony Joshua.

The Mexican-American produced a shocking upset at Madison Square Garden in New York, ending the British heavyweight star's title reign with a seventh-round stoppage to claim the WBA 'Super', WBO and IBF belts.

In the aftermath of Ruiz Jr's stunning victory, Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn stated their intention to host an immediate rematch in the UK, but the newly crowned champion admits he would love to take a return fight back to his home country.

"I'd love to do the rematch but first I've got to talk to my team, we'll go from there and figure things out," 'The Destroyer' said.

"I'd love to be in Mexico, there's never been a heavyweight champion in Mexico so I'd love to have a rematch there.

Joseph Parker never had a sniff, had to come here and take about 25% ?
