Joshua defended the physique of Ruiz Jr. in the build up to the fight, claiming that body shape is irrelevant, it's what's inside the body that matters.
Well, he just proved his own theory, losing his world titles to a man who wanted it more than Joshua. |

Gravy train derailed. Fat Mexican first on the scene.

Joshua is another Amir Khan a so so fighter built up by the bbc to be something special for political reasons
|
|
By:
he's hardly thrown a dig in last couple of 'fights' so an upset was on the cards sooner or later. But Ruiz was not on my mind to be the one
|
|
By:
Suspicious result but fair play to Ruiz - just pummelled AJ to defeat - not something we see in heavyweight boxing much these days. And hope for flabby types everywhere

Overrated ffs
He was in the same league as Muhammad Ali according to the BBC a couple of years ago ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That heavyweight division is bloody awful lets be honest, Wilder is now probably the best of bad bunch, fury can beat him on his night If we're being honest the BBC have been talking Joshua down recently, he's simply not been getting the clicks has he, so its time to move on to sell the next big overrated athlete/sportsman |
|
By:
And lets think about this
Joshua and Hearn have made 100m each out of this run ![]() ![]() ![]() Let that sink in There's no way Hearn can demand a 70-30 split now Vs Wilder, Wilder now holds all the cards |
|
By:
If he gets in with Wilder and fights like he did lastnight lackluster and flat footed he could get seriously hurt, he needs to prove he is serious and show it in a few comeback fights
|
|
By:
The genie has well and truly been let out of Joshua's bottle and he'll require to take care of business in a rematch with Ruiz before any talk of a fight with Wilder can recommence.
Expect a few twists and turns along the way, and don't hold your breath waiting for Joshua v Wilder. |
|
By:
there maybe another payday for AJ? It won't be long before we have mixed boxing, so how about AJ v another finito championi - Serena 'i have bigger muscles than you' Williams. I'd pay to see that
|
|
By:
Another BBC hype project gone bad, AJ was never that good to begin with, just in an era of crap boxers.

crap heavyweight boxers tbf

then again, when virtually every other sport is improving in leaps & bounds; boxing has gone backwards

I gather some people even stayed up to watch and lump on the 1.04 (and maybe even shorter) odds.
Well done if you layed it. |

Radio5 Live is replaying their coverage of the fight in the next few minutes if anyone wants to listen to it.
I was listening live and after the debacle that was the Katie Walsh decision over the Belgian girl I was almost expecting another upset. Didn't bet on it. No aftertiming. Just wasn't that surprised. |

Wilder: I'll knock Joshua out
Fury: I'll out box him all night Ruiz: hold my greggs . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikGPLO-fpgY |

Joshua did win an Olympic Gold
and did not have a bad record , good fight defeating Klitschko for World Title. I find this result quite amazing All the heavyweights now are super heavies, compared to what we had in the past. I would like Tyson Fury to have another chance...yet another super heavy |
|
By:
the lad was fat as f*ck but had some skills. AJ is an amazing specimen, looks like a sculpture but a fight is a fight.
Best fighter wins, even the tubby one. |

By:
Aj showed a lot of class at post match interview...bad night at the office...teletubby he was not !
|
|
By:
I wish I'd listened to the Irish guy, fighter can't remember his name, who said he spoke to AJ and
noticed a stye in his eye. He was on radio 5 a couple of days pre fight & said he looks run down and has a cold. He said that could tip the balance, should have listened. |
|
By:
On the rare occasion he came forward with some intent he had the measure of Ruiz but they only lasted a couple seconds and were few and far between. He kept try to use a long often slow looping jab to set Ruiz up for a big right that he never threw.

Aj showed a lot of class at post match interview...bad night at the office...teletubby he was not Watched this, AJ smiling and waving, Clearly still concussed... imho. |

The best part of this whole fiasco with the heavyweights not fighting each other is seeing Hearn being properly outmanoeuvred by the Americans. Clearly overvalued Joshua's worth in the early Wilder negotiations asking for silly amounts as usual.
He's been taking the pi$$ the last few years with some of these bill they charge £20 for people to watch it really does put me off watching Boxing. the cards are usually awful. I do feel a little sorry for Joshua as he does seem a genuine guy. What would he be looking at getting now? Wilders a massive name in America now he wasn't that big before the Ortiz/Fury fights. He was holding all the aces in the negotiations even before last night.. Poor Eddie. |

Ruiz only had one defeat going into the fight against Joshua
Against Parker who Joshua had beaten. But very much a different type of fighter to Parker, I assume Parker out boxed Ruiz, but could not do that to Joshua who dominated the fight behind a strong left hand from centre of ring. Ruiz did not bother with too much boxing against Joshua he just banged away, all too much for Joshua. Even though Joshua was British I like to see an occasional upset, keeps boxing interesting. I doubt those that backed Joshua at 1:04 enjoyed the experience as much. |
|
By:
Ruiz looked a very good fighter considering his appearance, Technical speed that went against his physique. I would bet on him to beat AJ again.
|
|
By:
There are no certainties in gambling. Been a lot more shorter prices than 1/25 beaten.
I think Joshua was psychologically defeated before he even entered the boxing ring, having seen Moneytree putting him up as FREE money on the other thread on football forum. ![]() |
|
By:
moneytree could down a jumbo jet if he backed it to get to its destination at 1/one million
|
|
By:
mighty macYou was right ibrahima...just watched the fight on utube He had very good hand speed Ruiz. He was clearly the smaller man but when he got close to Joshua he was out speeding him with his punches and clearly they were not just speed. He was like a little jack in the box, I don't think Joshua knew how to deal with him. Well done Ruiz |
|
By:
Fury is the best boxer, Wilder has the power to stop anyone. AJ is a hell of a unit but soft.
|
|
By:
Well I would not call AJ soft, not wishing to wake up in intensive care
..but can he take a punch, he was down a little too often in that fight, would be my question???? |
|
By:
He did keep getting up...the referee stopped it...but why was he down so often?
|
|
By:
he was concussed, but you are correct soft is too harsh.
he is a nicer guy than the other two & credit to him for that. Wilder & Fury will **** you up if you p1ss them off. AJ would warn you. |
|
By:
Ruiz's hooks kept hitting AJ's ears full-on.
Sure there was some sort of dysequilibrium, where you veer around thinking you're off-balance |
|
By:
Ruiz is a lot better than people gave him credit for and he was unlucky against Parker, losing by a decision.
