Pulp Fiction will always be my fav probably due to nostalgia,currently bored so watching Snatch for a laugh.

Correct. Not only the best gangster movie but just one of the best movies full stop.
Not a film but the series Gangsters was brilliant at the time mid 70s i think.
The Sly version is erased from memory. I only remember what the original billboards said: "Caine Is Carter" 
it's still fresh in mine, hfink. As is Alf Roberts getting chucked from a multi-story car park in the original
2 quite good british gangster flics...Sexy beast and Layer cake.
tom hardy as the kray twins is a decent film too

yep, a constant air of menace few have. Liked Mean Streets too which was the entry level film to
all the other wise guy films.

The Japanese yakuza films are excellent.
In fact the Departed is a remake of a Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs. It's better than the Departed.
Takeshi Miike makes some of the most disturbing films, mixture of ultra violence & surreal plot twists.
Also Takeshi Kitano makes proper Yakuza films

some of the suggestions are laughable. some are not even gangster films. have a word with yourselves you slags.
actually I am always surprised how much I enjoy Lock Stock,smoking barrels etc etc. a ludicrous gangster romp.
i shall put "The Sweeney" up; but only for laughter value, & the appearance of the sumptuous Hayley Attwell on a bed with 6 bellies Winstone. Hilarious stuff
Performance (1970) one of the greatest films ever made, a staggering omission.
Assa & Brigada are two Russian ones well worth a watch. i'm sure there is someone on here who likes Russian movies; so they are for you

A Prophet is similar to Gomorrah but both are excellent movies this genre
Bob Le Flambeur , 1955 a classic .
Lacombe Lucien , 1974 , not really a gangster movie but one that I know you will enjoy Baphornet . A great film that gets overlooked .
