When I asked for source I meant who is confirming the number of boats or migrants. Anyhow, it seems its the border force that quoted that number.

Do you people ever wonder how these people can make it to the shore undetected? Do you believe it when the news says a certain amount of migrants made it to the shore undetected? Do you know what it means when the news says the border patrol 'rescued' a certain number of migrant boats?
Report Just Checking June 2, 2019 10:40 PM BST
Can the rescuers not take them back to france, negating the trip in the first place? Bringing them where they want to go obviously just encourages them.
(Same goes for Libya).
Report detraveller June 2, 2019 11:22 PM BST
There aren't any rescuers here. There are only people in the sea tasked to ensure these people get to their destination safely.

The same thing happened in 2016. The Italian Navy kept 'rescuing' migrants.

The govt feeds you information. You start whining. There might have been a single boat. There might have been a hundred boats. There may have been thousands of boats already this year. But all of a sudden out of nowhere people are concerned about 13 boats. Why? Because that's what the media just fed them.

Germany took a million migrants. That number could have been three million or five million. But people were only told about the one million. So people only complain about the one million. That is the nature of the general public. They only criticize the govt on the information the govt feeds them.

What has been more bothering to me however is that no one ever bothers to ask the authorities why or even how this is happening. How is it even possible that these boats make it to the shore undetected? In 2016, while the libyan boats were entering Europe every day, there was a news item about Russia smuggling oil and weapons through EU waters. No one ever bothered to inquire how we can detect that but not migrant ships. All people worried about was why are there only young men among the refugees, why do they have iphones in their hands etc etc. The same is happening now in the UK, and people still can't see past the africans they see in the paddy shop(not targeted at the person who posted that above).

The short answer is, if the purpose was to send them back, there wouldn't be a 'rescue' in the first place.

Report Just Checking June 2, 2019 11:30 PM BST
It's pretty much like patrolling a shop looking for shoplifters and if you catch them, you take them to the front of the shop and help put the items they wanted in their pockets and pat them on the arse and send them on their way. Giving people exactly what they want is not exactly going to to disincentivise them.
Report detraveller June 2, 2019 11:46 PM BST
In the case of migrants, its not a case of shoplifting but a case of them not being allowed in the shop in the first place. The fact that they are in your shop should be questioned, not that they are stealing. That might well be their national sport.

People can enter a shop for no reason. Maybe even just to enjoy the heating for a few minutes because its too cold outside. But people cannot enter national territory for no reason, especially when they don't even have the right documents. The fact that they are being allowed to enter should be questioned, not their behavior afterwards.

If you whine all day about people not allowed in your shop stealing your stuff, but you never ask the guard at the door why he's letting them in, then you are the perfect example of how the public behaves. You criticize what you see and what directly affects you(your goods being stolen), without asking the person supposed to protect you why he isn't doing his job.

Also a 10% increase on population (talking about "origins" of patients, is plain wrong, btw) isn't as harmful as the 60+% cuts to the NHS in living memory, but you're so busy being political, that the media line and a few like-minded mates is paramount.

No-one ever mentions that 362,000 hospital beds in 1979 is down to 160,000 hospital beds in 2018. This isn't the problem is it?

But we cannot allow unlimited immigration, it is placing too much strain on our own infrastructure.

akabula.
The MASSIVE ongoing cuts, year after year, of which the hospital beds is just one thing that's easiest to find.

And as I wrote, but most of which you chose to ignore:

It's what we've come to after 60% of hospital beds have been scrapped in 40 years, and nearly all the country's cottage hospitals have been closed or sold off, and ambulance stations have been closed, ambulances run by private companies, and huge amounts of the NHS land has been sold to private enterprise, and GP's have become triage operatives, walk-in centres virtually all closed and fortunes lost to "Trusts" and their managers. A&E's decimated (literally), billions squandered on failed computer systems and so many other government driven problems. All cuts year on year for 40 years.

and the resulting extra pressure which has subsequently been foisted upon GPs. Or do you think that those who can't get to hospitals easily don't go to the doctor instead?
Doctors aren't blaming the problems on population, THEY blame it on government. I'd rather believe doctors than the Mail.

The Mail/Govt/NHS managers, are all happy to blame immigrants, population, pensioners, smoking, anything that keeps them in money and work.
Report akabula June 3, 2019 7:19 PM BST
Given that then isn't it stupid not to have controls on immigration?
In years gone by immigrants coming to this country were motivated by work.
ie they could improve their living standards here whilst contributing.
Nowadays they are motivated in the main by benefits and contribute nothing.

Look at the migrants we took in at the height of the crisis.
Over 100 went to the Isle of Bute. How many job vacancies are there on Bute?
None with plenty of locals having to work away.
All went straight on benefits with private housing bought to house them despite the waiting list for locals.
This was multiplied thousands of times throughout the UK.
We should only be taking people who have jobs to go to and will contribute immediately.
Australia and Canada used this criteria when they started the assisted passage scheme in the 50s/60s and still do.

If we look at individual countries, people tend to migrate to the places which are most prosperous ie the cities

What is happening now, is we live in a world where people from poorer countries migrate to the richer countries, the same principle.

Akabula is right. The biggest motivation for these people is free money, except the few deserving that do indeed flee war. I know this because I talked to hundreds of them during their registration in Germany. At that time people were on about how the muslims are invading Europe because it says so in the koran or how koran tells them to breed their way to dominance etc etc. There were even posters here like moisok who were posting verses from the koran and whenever i'd tell them that these people aren't motivated by religion but by free money they'd call me a muslim apoligist. No one then was willing to believe that the govt is importing them. That's why it was so easy to do it back then.

There is also a mafia that controls these routes. This mafia is backed by politicians of the areas these immigrants come through. Everyone pays a fee. In 2016, Pakistani refugees told me it only took 15 days to move from Pakistan to Germany. In 2017 there was an incident in Iran(or maybe border with Pakistan) where about two dozen people were found dead in a container. The families of these people told the media that they had given money to human smugglers to arrange the journey to Europe. At that time the money was equal to about 800 euros. This is how low the fees had become because every smuggler knew they had control of the territory till Greece and after that Germany wasn't leaving anyone unattended anyways.
