Everest is overrated imo, might be the highest point above mean sea level but it's not even the highest point on earth or the highest mountain from base to peak, personally I would rather climb Mount Chimborazo, which is the furthest point on earth away from it's centre, closest to the starsCool

I prefer the South Downs. There's even an ice cream van if you're flagging.

People pay over a hundred thousand dollars to be taken to the summit with the VIP pass. This sometimes includes a free helicopter ride as well. I'm pretty sure if you buy your way to the summit they'll place an ice cream van up there for you.

Interesting article. They say they are thinking of revising their laws regarding who is allowed to call, but I don't know how much of that to believe as they were talking to american media after the death of two americans, so probably made all that up.

This one is a gem though"
Ed Dohring, a doctor from Arizona, told the Times that when he summited a few days ago, he saw people pushing and shoving to take selfies, and he had to step around the body of a woman who had just died. “It was scary,” he said. “It was like a zoo.”

Shouldn't these people be considering their carbon footprint? I don't suppose many of them cycled there.
Although if some die in the attempt it sort of evens things out.

I tried climbing a mountain once. It works muscles that are rarely used in everyday life. It wasn't long before I had a cramp on.

I see Nepal are now trying to check climbing qualifications....but they are letting far too many climb

at one time...they need to ration this.

Still if 7 people dying in one week has not discouraged people, I am not sure anything will???????????????

I think they just made that 'criteria' statement to please the american media which was inquiring their officials after the death of two americans. I doubt the officials in Nepal would take any measure that results in them receiving less money.
