Three more climbers have died on Mount Everest, taking the death toll to seven in a week - more than the total for the whole of last year.
The three died of exhaustion while descending on Thursday.
It comes amid traffic jams near the summit as record numbers make the ascent, despite calls to limit the number of climbing permits.
Nepal has issued a 381 permits costing $11,000 each for the spring climbing season at the world's highest peak.

Whilst it is still obviously a dangerous venture, I think the wow factor of climbing it has worn off.

Similar happened in the infamous K2 incident , there were so many going up and they came down in the dark and hit bad weather.
Climbing Everest clearly is not that difficult for elite climbers with today's technology ,as the traffic jam shows. The lack of oxygen at the summit was the stopping point for climbs before Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary succeeded. |

What is the significance of reducing the amount of permits? Is the likelihood of an individual dying dependent on the amount of people climbing? |

when your that high up det you're literally dying, so the longer you stay there the more chance u have of dying

I like going up hills but strangely it's something I've no interest at all in doing. I'd kind of like to go the other extreme, be nice to visit the deepest parts of the oceans in a nice safe submarine and watch the wacky creatures getting up to no good. Or see Titanic in the flesh.

People who want to attempt Everest should perhaps have to show some minimum climbing qualification?
In the old days it was near suicidal to tackle Everest With modern equipment it is somewhat easier...but there is still a risk If there no risk there would be little point in doing it....although people would get a good view from the top |

They shouldn't charge a permit to go up but charge them $50k to bring them down.

This is quite common in nature.
If you have a pond with regular but finite resources then the fish population grows until the pond can’t sustain them and many die. Often Darwin gets involved and the bigger fish make sure it’s not them who suffer. Strangely, the environments don’t find a balance, they tend to bounce between dangerous overpopulation and blissful underpopulation. |

His corpse was found not that long ago.

The camera was found, and the film was developed but will not be released until the 2020 US Presidential race is underway.
Apparently, the photos show Mallory at the summit shaking hands with Donald Trump. |

It seems there is queuing for the summit...I think they need to limit the number of climbers at one time
If bad weather is forecast perhaps they can suspend climbs for the duration But apart from ensuring people have a certain level of climbing qualification, a minimum level of equipment and are fully cognizant of the risks involved, they should be allowed to climb. We are not all babies, society has no obligation to protect people from themselves. Protecting people from others who would harm them is enough just my own opinion |

If 10 deaths in one week does not discourage people nothing will!
I hope Nepal refunds money for those who have second thoughts Everest may have been conquered, but it is still very dangerous. |

There's an excellent film "Everest" made a few years ago and based on the true story of the events in 1996. It's clear from this past week that nothing much has changed since then
